Position Summary
Position is responsible for claim review for proper coding documentation, assisting in review of medical charts to determine physician compliance with Government/third-party payer regulations, provider on-going education for documentation, ICD-10 codes and CPT codes, along with auditing and assisting with pre-claim processing to avoid denied medical claims.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reviews and analyzes high volume of medical charts/ documentation for physician coding/billing compliance for government and third-party billing regulations.
- Ensures diagnosis alignment and accuracy within all elements of the chart and drug orders prior to claim release.
- Educates, trains and audits coding/billing regulations with Billing Staff, Attending IP physician/ providers, Clinic/OP Providers, NP’s, Nurse Coordinators, RN’s and other team staff at all Siteman Cancer Center locations to ensure accuracy and proper education on billing/coding/documentation policy regulations.
- Assists Billing Team Staff, Supervisor and/or Manager with any on-the-spot insurance coding denial review or education; achieving timely coordination and guidance with any staff/provider to align consistent and complete documentation that supports our services for all locations to successfully achieve clean and accurate claim billing to avoid back-end denials.
- Assists/defines appropriate CPT codes and ICD-10 diagnosis for existing and new services and all other services as requested by Manager.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience equivalent of Associate degree or 3-5 years’ experience in medical coding.
- Must also have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials). The specialty-specific credential is only valid for that employee’s department. REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: The RHIT or RHIA (or eligible) certification in health information management may be recognized in lieu of coding credential.

Salary Range
$62,000.00 - $96,100.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
