Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Pharmacy, the Manager, Pharmacy Operations is responsible for directing the daily activities of the Pharmacy to ensure safe and efficient operation of the department.

                         

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises activities of the Pharmacy personnel and oversees daily pharmaceutical care services and/or dispensing and/or distribution operations of the department.
  • Assists in planning and implementing new and revised programs/services.
  • Manages professional and/or technical support personnel within their scope of responsibilities including hiring, training, evaluating, disciplinary action, and scheduling.
  • Prepares and reviews various management reports to make appropriate recommendations.
  • Responsible for identifying the need for and development of all policies necessary to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of medication use practices and medications.
  • Maintains appropriate quality control and quality assurance program standards.
  • Oversees and participates in orienting and training of new personnel relative to clinical and/or operational issues.
  • Supervises maintenance of required departmental records according to regulations.
  • Assists with preparation of capital and operating budgets; administers budgets to attain objectives as assigned.
  • Attends continuing education programs to remain abreast of current pharmacy practices and to maintain licensure.
  • Performs duties of other Pharmacy managers as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follows Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Pharmacy.
  • Masters degree in Business Administration or Hospital Pharmacy or Pharm.D degree preferred.
  • Completion of a Pharmacy residency preferred.

Certifications:

  • Pharmacy license to practice in Ohio.
  • For Pharmacy Operations Managers in the Retail Pharmacy setting:
    • Completion of a board of pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations required.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA).
    • For incumbents as of 6/1/2019 who do not currently hold a current BLS and/or have not completed an approved course in the administration of immunizations will be given until 1/1/2020 to obtain required certifications.

Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  • Membership in local state and national Association of Hospital Pharmacists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Work Experience:

  • Completion of a Health-system Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 Residency or
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant pharmacy experience, including at least 1 year of leadership experience.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
