Production Operator

SHIFT: 7:30am to 4:30pm

Monday through Friday. During peak season, work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends.  At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required. 

Pay: Starting at $20/hr.

Job Summary: This is a full-time position. Will be directly responsible for the operations and maintenance of liquid and dry fertilizer production and equipment (stationary and mobile). In all stages of production safety, attention to detail, a quality and sanitation focus, and efficiency are key to the success of the operation. 

 

Responsibilities:
• Performs all phases of liquid and dry fertilizer manufacturing, including but not limited to operating augers, conveyors, pumps, mixer-blenders, load-outs, and weight-scale, where applicable.
• Operates fertilizer equipment used in manufacturing processes.
• Maintains equipment and performs repairs as instructed
• Unloads railroad hoppers & tank cars; loads and unloads semi-tractor hopper & tank trailers; operates end loader, tractor, and mobile fertilizer production unit.
• Ensures quality products and inventory control within proper specifications.
• Operates and cares for instruments used in quality control.
• Other duties that may be assigned.

 

Qualifications


Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if requested. Ability to speak effectively with customers, vendors or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills - General knowledge of math calculations; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills - Basic computer skills necessary to operate specialized fertilizer program


Other Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications - Liquid fertilizer and mechanical skills are necessary, such as electrical, welding, and cutting-torch knowledge; Self-motivated; safety conscience; mechanically inclined.

 

Required Qualifications & Experiences:

  • 18 years or older
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing and industrial machine operations experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to follow manufacturer's specifications and direction
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions and possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Valid state driver's license

Preferred Qualifications & Experiences:

  • 5+ years of manufacturing and industrial machine operations experience
  • Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial facility, formulations and/or packaging
  • Forklift experience preferred or willing to be trained for certification

Essential Physical Requirements:

Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy machinery. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.  

You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms.  Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty.  Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive and collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends.  At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required.  The ability to perform these requirements is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
