Job Summary

XUMO is hiring a Senior Server Engineer to join our backend service development team. You will design and develop microservices that power our industry-leading Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television service, available on platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, Smart TVs, iOS, and Android.

Comcast and Charter Communications will form a 50/50 joint venture that will bring our world-class Flex streaming platform, 4K streaming devices, voice remote and XClass TVs nationwide. You will want to join our innovative team, because together we will develop and offer consumers a next-generation streaming platform, with a world-class user experience and navigation and all the top apps, bringing more choice to the streaming marketplace. Comcast also will contribute XUMO to the joint venture, our free ad-supported service that currently delivers more than 200 unique streaming channels and features hundreds of free content choices.

Job Description

Additional Job Summary:

As a Senior Server Engineer, you will collaborate closely with other development teams, product management, and QA to assess product requirements, evaluate their impact and level of effort, propose detailed technical solutions, and implement changes. You will work as part of the backend development team, following an Agile/Scrum process.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Media and metadata content ingestion systems – managing how XUMO ingests compelling video content from our partners.
  • Integration with proprietary video encoding services – optimizing video encoding and streaming delivery through our client applications.
  • High-throughput web service endpoints – ensuring our internal and external client applications access the XUMO content libraries efficiently.
  • Recommendation systems – processing viewing data to deliver optimal content recommendations to users.
  • Large-scale batch data exporting processes – facilitating the delivery of vast content libraries to our collaborating networks.
  • Research & development activities – contributing to the innovation of new features and optimizations.
  • Position is office based in Irvine, CA- 4 days/week & remote 1 day/week.

Required experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience with Java, including JEE and/or Spring, Spring Boot.
  • 5+ years of database expertise in SQL (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
  • 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and working with Docker containers.
  • Experience with message queuing services such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (Google Cloud/Amazon Web Services).
  • Development of RESTful web services.
  • Proficiency in data structures, memory optimization, and code performance techniques.
  • Experience with data representation formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with data streaming pipelines (e.g., Apache Flink, Spark, Akka).
  • Experience with services utilizing content delivery networks (CDNs).
  • Knowledge of video encoding and streaming technologies.
  • Experience with batch processing (e.g., Spring Batch).
  • Familiarity with microservice architecture.

Compensation

Primary Location Pay Range: $139,015.07 - $208,522.61

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
