Banner Desert Medical Center, is seeking a new Health Unit Coordinator. This position is entry level and responsible for a variety of administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area which promote an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients. The position facilitates communication between physicians, nurses and patients, calls in consults and acts as a liaison with all other internal departments and external contacts. This position is for a Part Time Day Shift, 6am - 2:30pm, this will include weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. You will have the opportunity to utilize our self-scheduling tool as well as enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential as well as an 18% Night shift differential.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for continuous observation of patients’ monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors, and for reporting pertinent changes and abnormalities to the appropriate clinical staff. This position is also responsible for maintaining logs of activity and changes or behaviors in accordance with facility standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients. Must be aware of pertinent medical history, medications and code status for each of their assigned patients. Alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.

2. Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards. Documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.

3. Provides information and summaries to physicians and staff.

4. Monitors and assists in the maintenance of monitoring equipment.

5. May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.

6. Works under general supervision. Interacts with all levels of staff within the facility, physicians, patients, families and external contacts and vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

Current BLS certification may be required in certain departments.
Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.


Depending on department assignment, completion of unit approved basic electrocardiogram -OR- electroencephalographic interpretation course or on the job training – and - a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG -OR- EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias - OR - epileptiform activity. Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology. Requires effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.
