JOB SUMMARY
The Arch Mortgage Funding Director of Credit is responsible for managing all efforts related to Arch Mortgage Funding (AMF) Credit Policy, maintain a keen awareness and perspective of the residential mortgage non-QM and non-Agency marketplace, assist with whole loan and bulk loan purchases and sales, loan pipeline management, and manage all incoming underwriting questions, loan scenarios, and loan exception requests. This position will also work across the mortgage investment spectrum with a concentration on loan fulfillment, counterparty risk management, servicing, customer service, and securitization roles.
The candidate should be well versed in the residential mortgage marketplace with experiences in credit policy, counter-party evaluation, and senior level mortgage underwriting. Ideally, the candidate will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of both non-QM and non-Agency lending, and clearly understand the Expanded loan product aggregation marketplace and the necessity of managing a robust loan exception process.
This role can sit remote from anywhere in the US. Candidates located near the Greensboro, NC office would be expected to work on a hybrid schedule, with two days in the office, three days remote.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversight of the AMF Underwriting Guidelines Manual (Manual) which includes maintaining a keen awareness and perspective of the residential mortgage non-QM and non-Agency marketplace, working with AMF secondary to evaluate AMF loan features and product offerings. Coordinates with Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, and AMF third-party partners to support approvals and oversight of the Manual.
Management of the AMF competitor intelligence worksheet comparing the differing AMF program offerings to AMF’s main competition noting the differences, and reporting findings to AMF Leadership.
Oversees the AMF Credit Scenarios email box, answering credit inquiries, loan scenarios, and loan exceptions.
Manage the AMF loan pipeline monitoring and reporting seller performance metrics, managing and reporting AMF loan exceptions, and support the management of the AMF loan portfolio including Quality Control, loan sales and securitizations.
Review and approve all loans for purchase in regard to asset quality and TPR due diligence completion.
Conduct due diligence reviews on new and existing AMF seller due diligence application packages to evaluate counterparty credit worthiness. Prepare credit memos for seller approvals or rejections and ensure ongoing adherence to acceptable credit standards.
Assist with AMF sponsored training and educational presentations, and work on training the AMF Chat Bot.
Identify trends which indicate training needs or relationship opportunities and communicate to AMF Leadership.
Build and maintain relationships with sellers, investors, and vendors.
Ability to handle a large degree of internal and external diplomacy.
Leads loan servicing transfers from sellers to AMF’s third-party servicing provider to ensure a smooth and efficient transition. Additionally, assist with oversight of the AMF loan servicing portfolio providing monthly reports to AMF management detailing portfolio performance, servicing transfers, delinquency management, business trends, risk concentrations, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Actively participate with the organization, assembly, and packaging of loan sales and securitizations, including any required follow-ups.
Serve as process and Audit specific resource expert for AMF seller participants and AMF management.
Complete other duties and special projects as necessary and assigned.
Ability to manage the stress of multiple competing priorities while meeting critical deadlines.
Must be able to travel as required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Work experience of 8-plus years’ experience in the mortgage industry including 5+ years of non-QM/non-Agency work experience with a particular emphasis in Credit Policy & Sr. Level Mortgage Underwriting, Counterparty, Loan Operations, Compliance, and Servicing.
- In depth knowledge of US residential mortgage lending business with deep understanding of the Non-QM, and Non-Agency markets.
- Understanding of the mortgage financing chain from origination to securitization.
- Ability to evaluate and understand loan seller financial statements
- Comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment with high frequency transactional activity.

Education & Experience:
Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree and 8-plus years’ experience in the mortgage industry including 5+ years of non-QM/non-Agency work experience with a particular emphasis in Credit Policy & Underwriting, Counterparty, Loan Operations, Compliance, and Servicing.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$133,100 - $180,000/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
