Summary:
The Software Architect is responsible for orchestrating a forward-looking technology plan for their assigned domains to provide market-competitive capability at optimal speed and/or total cost of ownership. Works across the System affiliates to identify, integrate and implement technologies and solutions to motivate students and improve learning outcomes.
The Software Architect is expected to develop deep market insight, performs competitive assessment, understands and informs business and technology strategy, defines the reference architecture and maintains a roadmap of capability and investment aligned to critical business needs and technology requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works with development and product team partners, ensures the technical integrity, scalability and high availability of the Ruby on Rails SaaS platform that powers the innovative learning experiences of tens of thousands of students.
Owns the technical vision and implementation of the Online product roadmap, supporting everyday learning requirements as well as longer-term innovations in the student experience.
Maintains world-class standards and processes to deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences across dispersed, global teams, including the appropriate use of service benchmarking, performance analysis and capacity management.
Oversees and recommends software tools to automate infrastructure and release management, including those needed for DevOps.
Ensures modular software design with an emphasis on reuse and simplicity.
Establish procedures and policy that will ensure sustainable deployment, monitoring, upgrade and expansion of services.

Provides leadership and support in maintaining an agile, user-centered development process.
Contributes to new product and feature ideation, prototyping, testing and, as appropriate, development and deployment.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Experience:
At least 5 years in a hands-on experience, development-intensive individual contributor role, working with both low-level and high-level languages, which continues to inform your leadership working with development teams
Strong knowledge/experience in the architecture and design of products with mobile/web optimized frontends, application logic, database, and other services using cloud infrastructure (mandatory)
Prior success building a robust product platform that’s service-oriented infrastructure and API driven; deep experience with Salesforce a plus
Supported collaboration across and within teams through tools like Slack and dashboards
Ensured quality across the full stack of your products and platform via rigorous automated testing (unit, functional, integration), using continuous integration to ensure full visibility of quality metrics to dev teams and product owners
Good business acumen and communication skills to work with executives and stakeholders across your company, including product management, sales, finance, and support
