About the Job:

The Red Hat OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to join us in India. In this role, you will work in an agile team and contribute to the engineering of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and its supporting components in the core of Kubernetes. You’ll need to work with various engineering teams as well as product management and other key stakeholders  across the product to identify and prioritize features to existing and upcoming releases. You will be responsible for developing and leading a global engineering team to deliver quality products. This position collaborates with other technical leaders to ensure a

cohesive product suite.

What will you do?

  • Manage Software Engineering professionals at varying levels

  • Work with Product Management, Support and other Engineering stakeholders to prioritize customer facing features during the planning, development, and delivery.

  • Act as a point of escalation  for implementation of critical customer driven features and bug resolution.

  • Work closely with multiple engineering teams to deliver OpenShift and related services and add-ons for customers

  • Work with product management, partner engineering teams, and the support organization to develop technology roadmaps

  • Work with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, and quality assurance to coordinate tasks necessary for releasing enterprise quality software 

  • Work to recruit new associates to join the growing OpenShift team 

  • Ensure the delivery of timely, high quality results. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet business requirements through helping the team align with prioritized backlog.

  • Ensure alignment with product vision through collaboration and frequent communication with technical leadership and product owner. Establish team organization in support of product direction

  • Lead a team to understand, adhere to and consistently implement the software development lifecycle. Proactively identify and communicate potential roadblocks to the team and leadership

  • Provide technical guidance, hands-on assistance, and promote team culture with an emphasis on security, quality, and engineering agility; remove barriers to enable the team to be productive

  • Execute department processes and standards to ensure alignment across the organization.

  • Continuously improve processes through effective communication and acting as a motivator of change within the department; Utilize data to monitor and assess operations, quality, & team health

What will you bring?

  • At least 5+ years of software development experience and/or experience in managing engineering teams in a Product based environment

  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills

  • Excellent collaboration skills, applied successfully within a team as well as other areas

  • Excellent attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills; able to maintain solid rapport with team members as well as maintain professionalism with those outside of department

  • Excellent leadership, sound judgment, and business acumen skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CICD)

  • Proficiency with quality concepts (e.g., functional testing, unit testing, integration testing)

  • Working knowledge of Agile or other appropriate software development principles and

  • methodologies

The following are considered a plus:
Experience of working with customers and helping them in their transformation journey as product advocate would be advantageous

  • Familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift, CoreOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or Fedora

  • Understanding of open source development models

  • Prior participation in open source community software development or leadership

  • Familiarity with enterprise application development

  • Familiar with test-based development and agile or scrum methodologies

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with Root Cause Analysis experience

  • Hands-on learning and mid to senior level experience demonstrating implementation ownership of complex features individually and as a collaboration with others.
