Senior Manager, Assistant Counsel, Business Legal Affairs - Singapore

Role Responsibilities:

As a qualified attorney with extensive experience in the financial services industry, you’ll play a key role in providing world-class legal advice and oversight for all business units and shared services in the region, in pursuit of delivering the organization’s strategic priorities. Holding a critical position as part of the APAC & Middle East Legal Team, you’ll be responsible for supporting legal management of Western Union’s business in APAC and will be expected to provide timely and commercial legal and regulatory advice for BAU operations and new initiatives, as well as partnering with business leaders to help shape the strategic direction of the company.

You will:

  • Work independently as well as cooperatively, as part of a cohesive regional team.
  • Execute a variety of tasks, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating agreements for Consumer Money Transfers (Retail and Digital) and various other Projects and initiatives in coordination with other lawyers, business leaders and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide a broad range of legal and regulatory advice to business partners and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel.
  • Boast superior skills in researching, analyzing and monitoring new and existing laws.
  • Stay abreast of current legal issues and advise business and senior leadership on changes to regulatory environments in your jurisdictions of responsibility.
  • Drive end-to-end customer value and display a customer-first orientation.
  • Be forward-thinking, adaptable and be able to thrive in a culturally diverse, dynamic and high-pressure environment. 

Role Requirements: 

To be successful in this role, financial services experience in an international law firm, or reputable Singapore law firm, or corporate legal department of a multi-national corporation, or financial services regulator in the region is essential (minimum 5 years PQE).

Additionally:

  • You must have strong communication skills, written and verbal (Plain English Drafting).
  • You must possess a demonstrated ability to tailor communications for different audiences (internal and external stakeholders/partners/customers).
  • You are skilled at building networks and client relationships.
  • Alternate language skills (such as Mandarin, Bahasa and/or Japanese) will be viewed favorably (but not essential).
  • Experience dealing with regulations and regulators in the region and Greater China will be viewed favorably (but not essential).  

A Bachelor of Laws (Honours) or Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law is the minimum educational qualification required. You must be called to the Singapore Bar. 

This role reports to the Managing Associate General Counsel for Business Legal Affairs, APAC & Middle East (based in Sydney), whilst working under the daily guidance of, and in partnership with, Counsel for Business Legal Affairs in Singapore.
