General Description: The incumbent deals primarily with the day-to-day operation of the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory while supplying support to the Assisted Reproductive Technology Laboratory.  The junior embryologist reports to a senior embryologist/laboratory supervisor with oversight from the Director of Laboratories.  The junior embryologist assists in the total quality management of the combined laboratories to insure compliance by outside regulatory agencies.  Owing to the nature of this position, weekend and holiday work is required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists with Embryo Culture Lab services involving moderate to more highly complex procedures in the manipulation, micromanipulation and preparation of human gametes and embryos
  • Assists in the identification of oocytes and assesses their quality
  • Manipulates oocytes for insemination under the guidance of an embryologist; manipulates embryos for transfer, cryopreservation and/or thaw
  • Assists in the isolation of sperm from semen, epididymal and testicular tissue for in vitro fertilization and microinjection
  • Prepares and analyzes serum for immunoassay; performs semen analysis, including Kruger strict morphology
  • Prepares sperm for IUI
  • Maintains statistics regarding embryology procedures, success rate, IVF data base
  • Participate in continuing education in order to maintain and expand sills in the area of endocrine and andrology testing as well as the Assisted Reproductive Technology laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.  Bachelor’s degree in a biological or physical science preferred.

Experience: 1 year of experience performing andrology and endocrine testing and a minimum of 6 months of experience working in the Assisted Reproductive Technology laboratory is a requirement of the position. 

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: None required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skill in the techniques used in the andrology/endocrinology laboratory. 
  • Knowledge of ART laboratory techniques including embryo culture, micromanipulation techniques, embryo assessment/grading, cryopreservation of embryos and gametes and embryo transfer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools.
