Job Summary
The Medical Lab Assistant I will function to provide administrative and technical support to phlebotomist, lab technicians, and management staff in the lab.
Reports to Supervisor, Medical Laboratory
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Function as an assistant to laboratory staff in action(s) assigned
• Handle specimens that include blood, urine, bodily fluids, tissues, stool, and other material for biological and chemical analysis
• Perform minor CLIA waived laboratory testing that does not require licensure or certification (ie.,pregnancy testing, MONO, and certain other rapid testing)
• Follow up on orders from clinics and vendors
• All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and most hospital departments
Physical Capabilities
The work for a Laboratory Assistant may demand continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, sitting, reaching, bending and kneeling. The Laboratory Assistant may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required. The hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental requirements
Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals
