Caterpillar's Electric Power Division (EPD) offers integrated solutions, parts, and services to meet the needs of our various commercial and industrial electric power customers. EPD supports a wide range of customer applications across the globe, including providing back-up power to hospitals, providing emergency power when natural disasters strike, and supporting critical infrastructure for data centers, municipalities, and more.

Caterpillar currently has an opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer in Singapore. The position is responsible for providing detailed design engineering of generator control systems, PLC or similar controls software programming, and technical support & commissioning of field startups of both standard and non-standard switchgear systems, Generator controls systems,  warranty efforts, remedial repairs, and preventative maintenance.

What You Will Do:

  • Work closely with project management team to define technical solutions to projects.

  • Build, assemble and provide submittal documentation as needed for customer specific projects.

  • Work closely with switchgear suppliers/ vendors to design power envelope and controls solution and review drawings and documentation for projects. Provide detailed design drawing reviews to ensure solution meets customer requirements or specifications.

  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents.

  • Perform startup, preventative maintenance, testing, repair, and advanced electrical services on generator paralleling controls and switchgear at customer sites.

  • Submit daily reports, weekly expenses, and project files in a timely manner.

  • Program, test and validate PLC and CAT Controllers with project specific requirements.  Programming includes developing HMI screens and controls & automation strategy to meet customer project requirements.

  • Strategize and participate in Dealer development via training and support.

  • Stay current with training on all new and updated platforms.

  • Assist the customers and dealers on resolving equipment or controls issues remotely or locally as needed.

What You Have:

Technical Experience:

  • AC/DC Schematic and wiring diagram interpretation skills

  • Demonstrate proper reading schematics and blueprints for power control and automation

  • Strong knowledge of protective relaying scheme and power systems controls schemes

  • PLC programming experience (Allen Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, GE, etc.) preferred

  • Human Machine Interface programming experience (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, GE, etc.) preferred

  • Knowledge of Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Power Distribution and Switchgear preferred

  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs preferred (i.e. Electrical CADD, etc)

Additional Info:

You will be required to do travelling up to 75% of the time within Southeast Asia and Australia.
