The Energy Modeler is responsible for performing energy modeling analysis for IRC Section 179D tax deductions and ENERGY STAR programs using US DOE-approved software. The role includes reviewing client data for completeness, ensuring compliance with building codes, preparing documentation for IRS/FTB, and communicating technical findings to internal teams. The position requires proficient organization, active and willing communication with other team members, and strong technical knowledge of building systems and energy modeling practices with particular focus on HVAC systems and lighting design.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align with Ryan’s Key Results

People:

• Participate in the development and management of communication and coordination protocols for processing studies in collaboration with team members in other jurisdictions
• Organize and administer a backlog of commercial building energy models for completion by the team.
• Direct assignments and communicate outcomes and expectations to team members preparing energy modeling analyses and drive timely delivery of results.
• Develop and maintain a training and mentorship program for junior members of the team to foster growth and organizational sustainability
• Articulate resource needs to support internal team members.
• Create a positive team member experience through reliable collaboration and proactive communication.

Client:

• Communicate questions to internal team members as needed to maximize value of client studies.
• Oversee the production of compliant energy modeling analyses using eQuest, Trane TRACE 3D, Ekotrope, or other DOE-approved software packages.
• Analyze, and understand relevant internal revenue codes, treasury regulations, & tax court cases.
• Compose detailed reporting for client-facing deliverables and respond to follow up inquiries.

Value:

• Provide training, feedback, and support for developing the technical and professional skills of less experienced energy modelers
• Participate in the development and oversight of a quality assurance program to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Actively communicate with other members of the management team to implement and improve processes in order to optimize the study process; ensure the impact of updates are tracked and communicated.
• Ensure timely delivery of all assigned studies.
• Promote understanding of engineering and analysis trends, as relevant to energy modeling best practices.
• Collaborate with project management, field services, and sales teams to generate high-quality studies comprising thoroughly documented analyses.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or related field required.
• Candidate who is pursuing a Professional Engineering/Architecture license preferred.
• Previous work experience in the AEC industry is a plus
• Good communication and writing skills are required.

Computer Skills:

• Previous experience with AutoCAD/Energy Modeling a plus.
• Primary modeling software includes eQuest, TRACE 3D, IES-VE, DesignBuilding, HAP and/or EnergyPlus.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Certificates and Licenses:

• Engineering/Architecture Professional license.
• GRIHA Certified Professional (CP), LEED AP, ASHRAE BEMP, HERS Rater, or similar certification a plus.
