The Cloud Acceleration Team (CAT) uses stream-aligned product teams to deliver product features to the business at a higher speed with reduced coordination.  The team empowers a cloud-native platform comprising a foundation of self-service APIs, tools, services, knowledge, support, organization structure, and operating model arranged as a compelling product.  This will provide operational support for the platform initially to enable accelerated feature delivery.

As a Cloud Engineer II, you will be defining and executing the public cloud-centric core infrastructure services and common design patterns for computing, storage, networking, and security domains.  You will also be developing and maintaining automation frameworks for platform provisioning consumed by application product teams while advising them on incorporating cloud infrastructure capabilities with a DevOps mindset.  You will be actively collaborating with site reliability engineers to develop patterns, templates, and standards for pipeline automation.  You will be identifying emerging cloud infrastructure services to meet business resiliency requirements.  UMB is on a multi-year program to modernize critical infrastructure and business systems.  These programs are in flight, and this individual will serve as a thought leader and a consensus builder with a technology-savvy mindset.  As a pragmatic, results-driven engineer, you will be articulating complex IT concepts to all audiences, from technical contributors inside and outside the company.  This is a subset of overall responsibilities set by IT leadership team.

This role is hybrid (Monday through Thursday on-site / Friday remote) located in our Kansas City, MO or Dubuque, IA locations.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Build services to effectively provision, install/configure public cloud infrastructure, including but not limited to AWS Regions, Availability Zones, Transit gateways, VPC peering, EC2 compute instances, containers (EKS/ECS), and Amazon S3/EBS/Glacier storage patterns.
  • Deploy and manage security controls leveraging solutions (i.e. AWS multi-accounts structure, Organizational Units, Service Control Policies (SCP), IAM policies, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), AWS Control Tower Guardrails) and best practices.
  • Partner with application teams to design and to implement infrastructure-as-code stacks meeting needs of the applications leveraging technologies (i.e. Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK constructs, Ansible).
  • Actively develop and support self-service catalogs for infrastructure provisioning and make them available to application teams.
  • Advise on all aspects of cloud infrastructure offerings and solution design.
  • Ensure infrastructure provisioning automation satisfies IT general controls and solutions are deployed in a safe, secure, resilient, and compliant manner to adhere to regulatory requirements.
  • Provide hands-on technical coaching to accelerate cloud infrastructure learnings across the organization.
  • Provide thought leadership on creating solutions built with SAAS, PaaS, and IaaS components.
  • Provide accurate and current information on all AWS services and serve as a consultant to the CAT technical team to solve business use cases including estimates of costs for these cloud offerings.

We’re excited to talk with you if:

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in DevOps or automation.
  • You have at least 4 years of experience with Infrastructure and Platform engineering for high availability and scalable architectures in the cloud.
  • You have at least 2 years of experience with architecture and deployment of Cloud Services.
  • You have at least 2 years of experience with Metrics, Events, Logging, and Tracing solutions (i.e. Splunk, CloudTrail, CloudWatch).

  • You are a certified AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Systems Administrator Associate or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional.
  • You have previous experience in the banking or financial services industry.
