Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector has openings for Sr. Staff Chief Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on a soon to be awarded Capture Program in Melbourne, Florida.
Northrop Grumman is looking for a Chief Engineer (CE) for a new program within MDC2, a sub-IPT within the Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) of the Global Surveillance Division part of the Aeronautics Sector.
The Air vehicle program IPT is responsible for the development and integration of the Air vehicle design and cockpit updates for the new platform. This position will report to the Engineering Director & Platform Chief, and work alongside the Air Vehicle Program Manager in an IPT program construct. The Air vehicle CE will have a key role in working with a key partner for airframe manufacturing and design updates for the USN selected C-130J platform. The Air Vehicle CE, working with the Platform CE, has delegated authority for the design, development, integration, testing and production, including subcontracted elements for the Air vehicle Element, for this critical to the US Navy program.
- The CE maintains cognizance over technical activities within the assigned portion of the IPT and ensures the program including Suppliers is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainability of the IPT product. For their IPT the CE ensures the decisions on the configuration of the deliverable product and the technical approaches achieve expected system performance, enables long-term program sustainment, and meets technical requirements as they support the SETR Process (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR, FCA, PCA).
- The CE provides guidance for all related IPT technical activities is responsible for the integrity of the program technical baseline, technical products and interfaces with the USN Customer / Partners / Suppliers. The CE shall coordinate with the Program IPT Program Manager, working with the CAMS to ensure execution of the programs within an established cost and schedule baseline. The CE leads the technical baseline development, ensures configuration management of the design, ensures detail design approaches follow Sector processes and procedures, leads the top design/architecture approaches, and drives reuse of design concepts from across the Sector. The CE ensures a robust system engineering approach is executed for supporting the weapon system working with the Platform CE.
- The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems including mission computing, communications, sensors, and air vehicle. In addition, leadership and communication skills are important to help drive issues to closure and provide clear insight to leadership. Experience and ability to work Agile concepts across multiple fields including software, and integration and test is required. Familiarity with tactical weapon system software development, avionics integration laboratories, flight test, and associated data analysis and reduction is required.
Basic Qualifications (Must have):
- Bachelor’s degree in a (STEM) discipline AND 14 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Master’s degree AND 12 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Ph.D. AND 9 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems including air vehicle, cockpit functions, safety of flight A/V components, integration with communications, software and sensors for the mission system segment.
- Experience with leading cross function engineering team with developing and baselining the technical baseline for medium - Large (example: Subsystem consisting of 4-5 boxes integrating into a ground or air vehicle, platform upgrade for Air vehicle type system). Experience in crafting technical plans, trade studies and courses of action to shape technical development and the ability to lead the customer / NGC and Suppler Team through reviews of technical data/performance, trade study and technical decisions.
- Experience in supporting Supplier SSOW, SRD and scope discussions for technical lines between organization, deliverables and expectations
- Experience with Requirement Development and Management supporting product, function, allocated baselines, A/C and Mission Failure Conditions
- In-scope active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) (granted or renewed in the last 6 years) & interim DoD Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Air Vehicle Design (Engine Control, Power Management, Electrical, Forced Air Design , Load and Dynamics Analysis ) and Vehicle Integration for Supplier Box interface.
- Experience with the NAVAIR SETR Process for PDR, CDR, etc.
- Experience with proving technical leadership and accountability for Supplier / Partner teams
- Active Top Secret Clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed in the last 6 years).
Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
