We are seeking a talented individual to join our Operations team at Mercer. This role will be based in Gurugram. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
Manager/ Senior Manager – Tech Consulting & Assessments
This role is responsible for leading Mercer | Mettl’s coding question and coding simulator capabilities across backend, frontend, database, and full-stack domains. The role owns the design, quality, and evolution of coding problems and simulators, provides technical consulting support in client engagements, and works closely with cross-functional teams (Research, Product, Sales, Engineering) to translate requirements into scalable, future-ready solutions. The role also manages, and mentors’ team are involved in coding content and solution delivery.

We will count on you to:
1. Manage and mentor the team involved in coding content and solution delivery.
2. Lead end-to-end delivery of technical questions (based on coding simulators) for hiring, L&D and other use cases.
3. Define and enforce content governance: coding item bank standards, review cycles, difficulty calibration, version control and tagging for role/competency mapping.
4. Demonstrate a good understanding of the existing coding simulators and any other new simulators that may be built in future – the architecture, grading logic, scoring rubric where custom scoring logic must be created.
5. Drive product-requirement definition for simulators (runtime environments, language support, test harnesses, performance metrics).
6. Research and prototype innovative assessment approaches (such as GenAI-enabled evaluation, secure coding assessments, live coding experiences, auto-grading improvements and so on).
7. Act as the primary technical consultant on client engagements: elicit needs, map skills to assessment design, propose solutions, run demos, and handle technical escalations.
8. Ensure cross-functional alignment with research, product, engineering and sales.
9. Manage project timelines, resource planning, SLAs and stakeholder communications.
What you need to have:
1. 10–13 years’ experience in technical assessments or tech consulting or product or engineering roles.
2. Solid understanding of core technical skills across backend, frontend, database and full stack concepts.
3. Direct experience with coding simulators or online judge environments: sandbox execution, runner infrastructure, language support, time/memory limits, and secure containerization.
4. Prior experience leading and mentoring a coding/content engineering team (technical guidance, code reviews, hiring, performance).
5. Proven client-facing consulting experience — requirement gathering, solution design, client presentations and stakeholder management; ability to present technical solutions to non technical stakeholders.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to translate technical detail for business stakeholders.
8. Strong prioritization and delivery focus; ability to manage multiple client projects concurrently.
9. Based in or willing to relocate to Gurgaon; willing to travel for client engagements.
Good to have:
1. Experience with GenAI evaluation approaches (LLM-based code review, code-similarity detection), secure coding/cybersecurity assessments.
2. Familiarity with proctoring systems, anti-cheat technologies and test security audits.
3. Experience in product management or working closely with product engineering teams.
4. Hands-on with multiple programming languages and stacks (examples: Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL; exposure to frameworks and cloud services).
