At PayPal, Staff UX Designer 2 plays a pivotal role in steering teams towards customer-centric solutions throughout the product development journey. This entails leveraging data and research to drive design concepts and decision-making processes. Beginning with the right questions and culminating in refined deliverables, our designers are adept storytellers, attentive listeners, tech enthusiasts, and masters of their craft. 

As a Staff UX designer, you'll be championing customer needs to proactively identifying and addressing gaps in the customer journey. Becoming a customer advocate, you'll influence product direction through comprehensive user research and data analysis. Collaboration skills will be vital as you drive project execution and establish strong connections across teams. Your main focus will be onboarding merchants, facilitating product activation, and providing strategic recommendations to ensure alignment with merchant intent, delivering value to small businesses worldwide. You'll excel in articulating design rationales persuasively and driving organizational change, advocating for user-centric design, and implementing innovative technologies to enhance user experiences.

Job Description:

Your way to impact:

  • Collaborate with a team of product managers, architects, engineers, branding experts, and partners within UX team to envision and iterate a highly desirable, technically feasible and economically viable vision of Product experience.  

  • Partner with Product Management to integrate and prioritise UX requirements into product roadmaps.  

  • Provide creative direction and contribute to the thought leadership around design processes within the organisation.  

  • Collaborate with the design team to help establish best practices as well as work hands-on creating design deliverables such as sketches, wireframes, high fidelity mockups, design system components, prototypes, personas, research plans, and other types of presentations.  

  • Oversee and uplevel the craft of the implementation of designs across the product suite so that our customers receive a cohesive product experience.  

  • Improve your team’s work by asking for and offering feedback from other product designers and cross-functional teammates. 

Your day-to-day:

  • Lead in identifying and solving complex customer problems, proactively addressing gaps in the customer journey, and defining their needs through comprehensive user research and data insights. 

  • Utilize insights effectively to shape customer-centric product strategies, influencing product direction and driving meaningful impact on the overall user experience. 

  • Act as a vital liaison between design, product management, and engineering teams, facilitating effective collaboration and communication across all stakeholders. 

  • Present compelling design rationale and skillfully negotiate for user needs, leveraging strong communication skills to articulate design concepts and persuasively influence decision-making processes. 

  • Demonstrate mastery in design tools and techniques, consistently producing work that sets the standard for others and actively contributing to the evolution of design processes and methodologies within the organization. 

  • Independently manage intricate projects from inception to completion, overseeing all aspects of project execution and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality design solutions. 

  • Drive strategic change initiatives, advocating for user-centric approaches, improving workflows, and implementing new technologies to enhance the overall user experience. 

  • Effectively articulate the ROI of design decisions to stakeholders at all levels, demonstrating the value of design in driving business outcomes and fostering stakeholder buy-in and support. 

What do you need to bring:

  • Bachelor's degree / Master's degree with 9 -15 years of experience in design, research, or related fields, demonstrating a proven track record of leadership and impact in previous roles.

  • Extensive experience designing products and platforms, including native apps, with a focus on delivering exceptional user experiences for both consumer and enterprise audiences, including expertise in systems design. 

  • Knowledge or expertise in financial services or adjacent fields is highly advantageous, demonstrating an understanding of industry-specific challenges and opportunities. 

  • Proficiency with standard design and prototyping tools like Figma, Miro, Asana, and similar platforms, with the ability to leverage these tools effectively to drive design excellence and innovation. 

  • Demonstrated curiosity and a passion for pushing boundaries, delighting customers, and delivering meaningful impact, with a strong drive to continuously learn and grow.
