POSITION SUMMARY
The Temporary Life Insurance Underwriter will provide support to the underwriting department by reviewing life rider applications, reinstatements, and other administrative underwriting functions. This role is responsible for evaluating risk, making decisions within established guidelines, and ensuring accurate documentation.
The Temporary Underwriter also supports critical departmental functions such as agent license reviews, email box management, EFT processing, and response to underwriting requests. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to gain underwriting experience while contributing to the success of the team.
LOCATION: Remote role working from a US-based home.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fire, Accident and Health and Life Rider Applications
Review rider applications and identification.
Review in-force policy information, prior case files, and medical information.
Compare application information with policy administration system for discrepancies.
Determine if changes are allowed based on product rules.
Order vendor inquiries based on age/amount charts.
Evaluate risk using vendor information (medical records, Rx data, claims history, criminal checks, inspection reports, MVRs, paramedical exams, labs).
Make underwriting decisions (issue, new app required, or decline).
Generate decline or post-notification letters as applicable.
Communicate with agents and Policy Service.
Maintain detailed and accurate case file notes.
Response to Underwriting Requests
Review communications received from agents.
Complete related transactions in the policy administration system.
Update case notes, close images, and communicate with agencies.
Reinstatements
Review reinstatement applications, medical information, and policy system data.
Evaluate in-force policy history and risk.
Make reinstatement decisions based on available information.
Generate decline letters and communicate with agents and Policy Service.
Keep accurate case documentation.
Agent License Errors
Review application information in both the policy administration and licensing systems.
Communicate with agents and licensing department regarding discrepancies.
Update records in the policy administration system.
Underwriting Email Box
Review incoming emails from agents.
Upload relevant email content into case files.
Respond to generic inquiries.
Keep thorough documentation in case notes.
Key EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
Review application and policy administration data.
Accurately key EFT information into the policy administration system.
Document actions thoroughly in case files.
Additional duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
College degree or equivalent with some underwriting, insurance, or administrative experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to analyze data and apply underwriting guidelines.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
