Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) – PAYplus USA (PPUSA) 

Location: Atlanta, GA 

Product: Finastra PAYplus USA 

Client Environment: U.S. Banking Client

Role Overview 

The Senior PPUSA Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a seasoned professional responsible for providing deep functional and technical expertise in Finastra’s PAYplus USA solution in a production banking environment. This role supports a U.S. bank client and plays a critical part in complex issue resolution, configuration advisory, and client engagement. The SME works independently with minimal guidance and acts as a trusted advisor across Finastra and client teams. 

Key Responsibilities 

Functional & Product Expertise 

  • Provide in-depth subject matter expertise in Finastra PAYplus USA across configuration, processing flows, and production operations 

  • Apply strong conceptual and practical knowledge of PPUSA with working knowledge of related payment platforms 

  • Act as a product authority for complex configurations, system options, and payment processing behavior 

Issue Investigation & Problem Solving 

  • Lead investigation of complex L2/L3 production issues including defect triage and root cause analysis 

  • Recreate issues using GUI, database analysis, and trace logs 

  • Analyze PPUSA core tables, business flows, traces, and system behavior  

  • Review end-to-end payment processing flows and determine configuration vs. code-related issues 

  • Execute solutions and support QA/L2 during validation 

Client & Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Participate in client escalation calls 

  • Explain complex technical issues clearly to client and internal stakeholders 

  • Provide structured status updates, risk assessments, and next steps 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to PAS Leads, Advisors, and bank stakeholders 

Operational Impact & Collaboration 

  • Own end-to-end accountability for assigned PPUSA processes or operational objectives 

  • Work closely with L1, L2, QA, Product Management, and Development teams 

  • Operate within broad guidelines while exercising sound professional judgment 

Required Skills & Experience 

Technical Expertise 

  • Strong hands-on experience with Finastra PAYplus USA (mandatory) 

  • Recent relevant PPUSA experience within the last four years 

  • Strong skills in trace analysis, database investigation, and rule configuration 

Professional Skills 

  • Ability to solve complex problems using analysis of multiple data sources 

  • Works independently with minimal guidance 

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills 

Business & Communication Skills 

  • Understanding of U.S. payment processing and banking operations 

  • Awareness of market best practices and Finastra’s competitive positioning, Finastra ecosystem 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Comfortable interacting with senior client and internal stakeholders
