F5’s hardware and software products are highly configurable and blazingly fast. The Platform Security team is responsible for ensuring that the products F5 builds are as secure as we can make them. We provide service and support to F5 development teams in all phases of the Secure Development Lifecycle – from architecture and design time security and threat analysis to best development practices training, to security testing and certifications, to vulnerability response and management.

Platform Security has a unique vantage point within F5 Product Development. Our Software Engineers understand multiple products in their entirety – not only how the features work but how they work together. This makes Platform Security engineers highly valued at F5.

Position Summary

This position is a dual role requiring technical expertise and the ability to lead projects across multiple teams and vendors. The ultimate goal is to achieve standards-based certifications for F5 products. Perform as an individual contributor and collaborate with peers under the direction of technical leads on assigned project teams. Requires little direct management to complete most of the assigned tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serves as technical expert for certification standards, including FIPS and Common Criteria

  • Leads analysis of requirements and works with the development teams to design for standards compliance

  • Assists Managers with project scope and estimating

  • Liaises with cross-functional teams to ensure that project is delivered in its entirety.

  • Act as a mentor for junior members of the team

  • Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes and standards

  • Engages with customers to address escalations and devise solutions

  • Engages with Product Management to drive detailed product requirements

  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of the FIPS 140-3 standard, and optionally, Common Criteria

  • In-depth experience with cryptography and cryptographic algorithms, entropy, and related subjects

  • Broad knowledge of security and secure development lifecycle.

  • Expert Knowledge and extensive experience with vertical stack technologies.

  • Experience developing complex product development initiatives from concept through release.

  • Extensive development experience in embedded operating systems.

  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Regularly demonstrates collaboration by promoting others’ ideas, influencing others, and making teams successful.

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications

  • Regarded as technical lead by peers and management.

  • Must be a Subject Matter Expert in multiple skill areas.

  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. 

  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

  • Duties may require being on call periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).  Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 5% of the time spent traveling.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience.

The annual U.S. base pay range for this position is: $181,774.00 - $272,660.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
