Position Summary

The Ballot Clerk (BC) processes electors, revises their information and issues ballots using electronic forms and lists on a computer equipped with software provided by the Town Clerk.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with opening and closing the voting location

  • Notify the Deputy Returning Officer of any disruption at the voting location in a timely manner.

  • Assist electors with disabilities, if requested.

  • Verify elector identification and qualifications to vote.

  • Complete tasks using forms and lists on a computer equipped with the provided  software.

  • Issue ballots to eligible electors.

  • Manage a large flow of electors within a voting location.

  • Complete tasks manually, using paper forms and lists, efficiently, if required.

  • Ensure scrutineers are following guidelines set forth within the voting location and report concerns to the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO).

  • Direct any elector issues to the Deputy Returning Officer, as they arise.

  • Assists with other various election-related duties, as requested by the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

Education & Experience

  • Previous election experience is an asset
  • Access to vehicle to travel to the voting location.
  • Availability to work long hours
  • Ability to read and observe voting procedures at the voting location.
  • Ability to learn quickly, follow directions, and complete repetitive duties.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to identify and verify information provided by an elector in a timely manner via hard copy or mobile device.
  • Be at least 18 years of age on advance poll day or election day.

Event Rate:

$275 per day
