Job Description

A Glimpse of the Job

The Environmental Health and Safety Technician I, under supervision, performs assigned tasks to gain knowledge and actively contribute to supporting a designated area within an environmental health and safety program.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Testing Fume Hoods-Learns and Assists with:

  • Qualitative and quantitative testing on chemical fume hoods using specialized equipment

  • Visually inspecting chemical fume hoods and reports mechanical malfunctions for repairs

  • Generating test reports and documents the results in the BioRAFT software system

  • Updating BioRAFT with the most current user and equipment information

  • Submitting repair requests for chemical fume hood repairs and tracks them to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner

  • Routine Functions

  • Routine tasks in any functional area with regards to environmental health and safety

  • Safety inspections

  • Hazard identification and risk assessments

  • Safety equipment calibration, inspections, and maintenance

  • Proper waste management practices

Records & Reporting

  • maintains records of inspections and how to prepare reports

Training & Development

  • Participates in training and development opportunities

Emergency Response

  • Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed

What You Need to Know

Salary: $15.85/hour

Required Education and Experience

  • High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience

  • No prior experience required

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of work experience or some college coursework

Other Requirements and Factors

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system

  • This position is security sensitive 

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
