SUMMARY

We are seeking highly motivated Accountants to support the evolving landscape of our renewable fuel’s state and local compliance programs. The successful candidate will assist in renewable fuels’ obligation calculations, Dakota Prairie Refining and Martinez credit calculations, annual and quarterly reporting, annual verification, and other accounting compliance related tasks for MPC’s emission and carbon intensity programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and verifies financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigates and resolves discrepancies of Renewable Compliance Management System (RCMS) and RightAngle Data.
  • Reconciles and works closely with MPC’s counterparties to ensure accurate and complete reporting to governmental agencies.  Duties include reconciling obligated transactions, exemptions/rebates and Product Transfer Documents (PTDs).
  • Partner with Trading, Scheduling and the Carbon & Renewable Regulatory Assurance (CRRA) team to ensure accurate and complete reporting to governmental agencies.
  • Supports BP&A and assists with analytics around the monthly forecast vs actuals process.
  • Creates, records and reviews journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts.
  • Identifies efficiency gaps and recommends ways to improve processes and standards.
  • Ensures the integrity of financial transactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supports accounting processes by driving and prioritizing business requirements, system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
  • Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Displays advanced ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to, Excel, SAP, RightAngle, RCMS, etc.
  • Actively participate and provide feedback related to testing new enhancements to be deployed in both RCMS and RightAngle as it relates to the state and local compliance programs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related Field. Accounting degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience
  • RightAngle experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with a systems-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
