OVERVIEW: The Controls Engineer III will support vehicle controls and software development, electronics integration, and system commissioning using fundamental engineering knowledge, best practices, and industry knowledge. Performs assignments and leads projects with minimal instruction and guidance from senior level engineers and managers. Develops and improves processes and tools. You will support the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned vehicle platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Controls Development
    • Leads all controls and software development activities
    • Works with cross functional project leads to ensure project success
    • Define controls architecture, platform, and functionality
    • Defines and creates control algorithms for specific systems in a Simulink environment
    • Develop and test controls performance through modeling, bench, and vehicle testing
    • Integration and commissioning of prototype systems in development vehicles

  • System Hardware Specification
    • Support design, selection, and integration of electronic components
    • Communicate mechanical requirements of system to design staff
    • Identify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements
    • Communicate wiring and connector requirements to support harness builds

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Interaction with current and potential customers regarding Pratt Miller systems
  • Planning and program management on internal and customer projects
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes
  • Strong technical writing, communication, team, and organizational skills
  • Have great attention to detail

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related field with 2+ years of related experience or
  • Master's level degree with 4+ years of related experience or
  • Bachelor's level degree with 6+ years of related experience

    • Kvaser CanKing
  • Data acquisition hardware and software experience
  • Vehicle and system troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of automotive, robotics, defense, or motorsports industries
  • Communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, LIN, etc.)
  • Electric and Hybrid vehicle architecture
  • Electrical/Mechanical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic system design and simulation
  • Autonomous and by-wire design
  • Actuator controls (motors, valves)
  • Embedded C code development

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires light physical activity

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Daytime schedule Monday-Friday with infrequent night/weekend work for project surge support and additional effort as needed to achieve deadlines

Pay Range:

$89,500.00 - $140,500.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
