AWS Data Platform Engineer (Automation and Performance Optimization)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Solutions Design and Implementation:

    • Design, implement, and manage data solutions using AWS data services such as Amazon Redshift, Amazon EMR, Amazon Kinesis, AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, and Amazon Athena.
    • Ensure the architecture and design of the data platform meet business requirements for reliability, availability, and scalability.
  • Infrastructure Automation:

    • Automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and scaling using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure as code (IaC) tools.
    • Develop and implement data engineering best practices, including continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for data platforms.
  • Performance Optimization:

    • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data platforms for performance issues.
  • Security and Compliance:

    • Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain data governance, compliance, and security policies.
  • Technical Guidance and Support:

    • Provide technical guidance and support to other team members and stakeholders regarding data platform capabilities and best practices.
    • Stay current with new AWS services and other data technologies, evaluating their applicability to our goals and integrating them as appropriate.
  • On-call Support:

    • Participate in on-call rotations for supporting critical data platform operations.

Technical Skills:

Category-wise:

  • Cloud Services:

    • Expertise in AWS data services (Amazon Redshift, Amazon EMR, Amazon Kinesis, AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Athena)
    • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (AWS CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Programming and Scripting:

    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or similar for automation tasks
  • Data Management:

    • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience in optimizing complex queries
    • Understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modeling
    • Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools
  • DevOps and Security:

    • Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git)
    • Proficient in implementing security and compliance standards within AWS
  • Containerization and Big Data:

    • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration services (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Prior experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Designing and developing scalable data solutions on AWS
  • Automating infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes
  • Monitoring and optimizing data platform performance
  • Implementing security and compliance measures
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide technical support and guidance
  • Staying updated with the latest AWS services and integrating them into existing solutions
  • Participating in on-call rotations for critical data platform support

Qualifications:

  • AWS certifications related to data services or solutions architecture
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with AWS data services and infrastructure
  • Banking program experience (e.g., Data Mesh, Large Enterprise data platforms)

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies
