This position is a XR/CT hybrid schedule. CT registry is preferred, but not required upon hiring; staff will be provided on-the-job training for CT with completion of CT registry within 1-year of hire date.

The staff Diagnostic Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Manager: Performs general radiographic examinations; receives and reviews patient radiology requisitions for diagnosis and examinations requested; selects and operates a variety of x-ray equipment; positions patients and determines radiation exposure factors; assists Radiologist during fluoroscopic examinations; performs film quality control; releases patients; performs miscellaneous related duties; exercise general supervision of the X-Ray Students; performs other duties as assigned. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.

Shift: Rotating weekday third Shift schedule with a set, every 4th weekend: All shifts 7p - 7a.

Requirements:

- Associates Degree or higher education

- Registered Radiologic Technologist (R-RT)

- BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Performs General Radiographic Examinations and Patient Care:

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Radiologic principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or positioning for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by quality imaging and Radiologist feedback.
  • Adheres to department policies and protocols. Assists physicians with invasive procedures and handles all technical aspects of the examination; provides gonad shielding and patient immobilization devices; consistently demonstrates ability to properly operate various radiographic systems.
  • Recognizes signs of equipment malfunction and reports problems to the Clinical Coordinator and/or the Biomedical Department.
  • Recognizes any patient safety implications and prevents use of such equipment until properly cleared by the Biomedical Department.

Prepares Patient for Radiology Procedure:

  • Communicates effectively with patient to obtain clinical history from patient or patient 's chart.
  • Checks HIS/RIS work-list to obtain exam requests and verifies written order (electronically scanned or paper copy).
  • Properly identifies patient with two identifiers and verifies examinations requested.
  • Performs an assessment to include the patient's ability to comply with the examination, the patient's understanding of why the procedure is being performed, and the understanding of how to obtain the results of their examination.
  • Explains the x-ray examination to the patient; establishes and maintains good communications with patients during and after examinations; offers prompt assistance and answers questions; maintains patient privacy and comfort.

Performs Film Quality Control:

  • Distinguishes between acceptable and unacceptable radiographs; reviews radiographs for correct patient positioning and x-ray exposure; utilizes technologist initials on all radiographs; accurately labels radiographs with patient identification and Right or Left lead markers; labels time of examination when appropriate.
  • Verifies all images are correctly displayed on modality prior to sending to PACS for the Radiologist to view and provide reading.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement processes and strive for quality imaging.

Appropriate Use of Resources:

  • Performs radiographic examinations in a professional manner.
  • Completes examinations within established department timeframes for efficient and quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete a heavier than normal workload. Actively participates in the x-ray student-training program and provides a supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork; assists other staff when needed and/or as directed regardless of room assignment.

Performs Record Documentation:

  • Records pertinent patient history or other unusual patient condition.
  • Completes billing procedures, documenting exam information in the HIS/RIS as required and scanning documents into PACS and/or HIS/RIS as appropriate. Properly obtains a patient consent and/or screening forms when appropriate per established policy and protocol.
  • Completes imaging record preparation as necessary.

Performs Related Duties:

  • Maintains an orderly, safe and clean environment.
  • Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies. Participates in special department projects.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services. Other duties as assigned.
