What you’ll do:
As a member of the Data Science team, the Senior Data Scientist will support core teams – product, fleet, operations, member services, revenue management, and sales – to deliver on the company’s mission of enabling simple and responsible urban living. Day-to-day projects include developing predictive models, using the vast amount of available data, to influence business growth and decision making. Using a business-focused mind set, the data scientist will build relationships with stakeholders throughout the company to provide the tools they need.
The ideal candidate combines technical knowledge with a customer-service approach to deliver tools to business stakeholders. This role will have a direct and immediate impact on the growth and profitability of the company by delivering data-backed evidence to decision making.

- Become a generalized expert of Zipcar’s data platform: how data is generated and captured along with any caveats and exceptions
- Explore and analyze datasets to uncover valuable insights and trends
- Develop, maintain, optimize, and scale models used to power predictive analytics

- Implement analytical models in production by collaborating with other engineering teams
- Serve as the point of contact for data science models – includes training, troubleshooting, explaining outcomes and prioritizing future enhancement
- Evangelize data driven decision-making across the company. Attend strategy and design meetings and hold leaders accountable for testing and measurement
- Manage multiple projects at once, prioritize backlogs, and successfully meet deadlines independently
What drives success for a Data Scientist:
- Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant data science experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Proven experience with a modern programming language (Python, R)
- Advanced SQL skills
- Proficiency with cloud technologies (AWS), Kubernetes, Airflow
- Comfortable operating in an SDLC environment and deploying production engineering models and code
- Ability to collaborate, build consensus, and influence cross-functional teams.
- History of success and a desire to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
- First-rate analytical skills, including a critical eye for detail
- Excellent communication skills with a customer-service oriented approach
- Proactive, with the ability to solve problems independently
- Experience analyzing large datasets through data extraction, cleaning, and modeling to distill insights
- Nice to haves:
- Master’s degree in data science, data visualization, or another quantitative field
- Experience working with a Redshift data warehouse and standard AWS services (EC2, S3, etc)
- Experience with agile processes
- Knowledge of ETL and tools such as DBT
- Prior work with urban analytics, transportation, or cities
