Akron General is looking to add a Manager of EMT and Paramedic Education to the team who will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of EMS educational programs to train individuals to become Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics and EMS Instructors. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 8:30AM – 10:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Oversee the work activities of the EMS Education Department to include paramedic and EMS Instructors.
Interview, hire, orient and trains staff.
Provide feedback and discipline as required and manage personnel performance.
Design, coordinate, implement and evaluate the Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician Education Program to include developing curriculum, presenting lectures and constructing valid and reliable testing instruments.
Review and revise EMS Education curriculum as described by the governing agencies.
Assist with maintenance of approval/accreditation status and compliance with all applicable regulations, statutes, personnel qualifications and reporting requirements.
Prepare re-accreditation documents for appropriate state and national governing agencies.
Serve as the Lead Instructor of courses assigned by the Program Director.
Oversee development of preceptor training for all clinical and field preceptors.
Ensure student, site and preceptor compliance with all policies and procedures.
Recruit prospective students for the program.
Monitor progress and issue disciplinary actions to students as needed.
Serve as a coach and mentor for students (e.g., assist with student tutoring, provide support to program students and graduates seeking employment in the field, etc.).
Administer surveys to students, staff, advisory committee and faculty as required by state and national regulatory agencies.
Compile annual reports, graduate, employer, faculty surveys, advisory board meetings, minutes and actions.
Lead data reporting activities (e.g., retention, attrition, exam pass rates).
Ensure completion of Terminal competency assessments and compliance with HIPAA training.
Maintain & deploy risk management procedure for accidents or injuries at clinical sites in collaboration with Program Coordinator(s).
Coordinate contract fulfillment with all clinical and field agencies.
Instruct BLS, ACLS, PALS and ITLS Courses as needed to meet the needs of the program, the organization and the community.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s degree in a health care discipline or Education
Five years of EMS experience as an EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic. Three years of the required five years of experience must be as a Paramedic
Previous teaching experience
Supervisory/staff management experience
FESI (Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, Level II) course completion within 90 days of hire
State of Ohio Paramedic Certification OR Ohio Registered Nurse with five or more years of prehospital experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider upon hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Provider within one year of hire
Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI), Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor (ACLSI) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALSI) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire
International Trauma Life Support Instructor (ITLSI) within one year of hire
Knowledge of computers and the ability to become proficient with Platinum Planner student software and the Microsoft office suite
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Extensive travel from place to place at the work location and to travel between work locations
Working in a stationary position for extended periods
