Fire & Security Engineering Apprentice

By joining the Johnson Controls team as an Apprentice fire and security engineer you'll be joining global leader in engineering and integrated solutions

You'll learn hands-on, installing, maintaining, and understanding fire and security systems that protect individuals and businesses. What you will do:

  • As a fire and security engineer you'll dive into a hands-on role where every day brings exciting challenges and opportunities for growth. From installing cutting-edge fire detection systems to fine-tuning CCTV networks, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring safety and security for homes and businesses.
  • You will work closely with an experienced team of engineers learning how to protect individuals, homes and properties from risk and danger.
  • This involves installing and maintaining fire and security systems including fire alarms, intrusion detection, CCTV systems, and access control systems.
  • You will be traveling daily to client premises across a variety of sites: domestic, commercial, retail, and more.
  • This is a field-based position where regular travel is a requirement of the role, primarily working in Devon and Cornwall regions.
  • On-the-job training will be provided working closely with our experienced Fire & Security engineers, many of these engineers have also been through our apprenticeship scheme so they are the perfect mentors to guide you through the apprenticeship.

Training and Qualifications:

  • You will be enrolled on a level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician qualification delivered by Banham Academy, alongside fellow Johnson Controls apprentices.
  • You will attend on a block release basis training and receive on-the-job guidance from experienced mentors and engineers.
  • You will be trained in the installation and testing techniques for fire and security systems, including fire alarms, intrusion detection, CCTV systems and access control systems.

Career Progression:

  • Upon completion, a number of internal opportunities within the company will be available to you. All of our apprentices immediately move into full time permanent engineering positions.
  • Previous apprentices have become lead engineers, managing their own teams and projects.

Qualifications Required:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade 5)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths (Grade 5)
  • Full Driving Licence is essential.

What happens next?

  • Suitable candidates will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position and provide necessary documentation. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre in May, assessment centres typically include a combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, and presentations.
  • Within 48 hours of the assessment centre, candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can begin the apprenticeship on September 2, 2024.
