About us

Dyson is a global technology enterprise.  We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better.  We’re driven by progress and thrive on the challenge of relentless improvement.  We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge – more categories, more locations and more people.

Our scale and rapid growth make Dyson rich in new opportunities. We value new ideas and diverse perspectives, so our people are trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset.  You’ll develop fast and have the chance to move into different business areas and regions.  And you’ll be part of a global network of like-minded people – a community that supports and learns from each other.

About the role

In this role, you will be exploring the frontier of virtual prototyping by integrating traditional engineering analysis with real-time 3D simulation platforms. You will work within the Virtual Engineering function to bridge the gap between high-fidelity Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) data and immersive visualization environments, specifically focusing on Nvidia Omniverse. You will help the team understand how digital twins and physically accurate real-time rendering can accelerate the development of next-generation Dyson technologies. You will be expected to prototype new workflows, develop tools to visualize complex physics, and support the creation of a seamless digital engineering pipeline.

Some of your tasks could include:

  • Investigate and prototype workflows for importing engineering simulation data (CFD/FEA) into Nvidia Omniverse or similar virtual environments.

  • Develop scripts (primarily Python) and extensions to automate processes within the Omniverse ecosystem, facilitating the creation of "Digital Twins" of Dyson products.

  • Responsible for converting and optimizing 3D assets and simulation results into Universal Scene Description (USD) format for collaborative use.

  • Work closely with fluid dynamics and structural analysis experts to create photorealistic, physically accurate visualizations of airflow, thermal gradients, and structural stress.

  • Explore the use of physics-based real-time simulation (Nvidia PhysX) to complement traditional high-fidelity analysis methods.

  • Responsible for documenting new methodologies and presenting proof-of-concept demonstrations to the wider Virtual Engineering group to establish best practices.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities where virtual environments can solve complex interaction problems between mechanical and electrical components.

  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Deliver product focused technology projects to the Dyson range plan.

About you

Our internship roles are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you will need to be:

  • Working towards or have achieved a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on simulation or graphics.

  • Strong proficiency in Python programming is essential; experience with C++ is advantageous.

  • Experience with or a strong interest in Nvidia Omniverse and the Universal Scene Description (USD) framework.

  • Familiarity with real-time 3D engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) or 3D content creation tools (e.g., Blender, Maya) is highly desirable.

  • An interest in physics and engineering fundamentals (fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, or mechanics) and how they apply to product design.

  • Ability to understand scientific data and visualize complex physical phenomena creatively.

  • Experience or familiarity with standard engineering simulation software (ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.) is a plus, but not mandatory if the coding skills are strong.

  • The proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables is imperative.

  • A clear logical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.

  • A proven structured approach to creative problem solving.

  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal format.

Dyson is an equal opportunity employer. We know that great minds don’t think alike, and it takes all kinds of minds to make our technology so unique. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and employment decisions are made without regard to race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, protected veteran status or other any other dimension of diversity.
