We’re seeking a Powertrain Quality Senior Engineer to join our Farmington Hills, MI team.
This role will involve engineering tasks related to powertrain quality. The candidate will be required to statistically analyze in-service months and durability warranty market complaints. They will work with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure countermeasures for field quality issues are developed and adopted quickly for Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and Battery Electric Powertrains. Additionally, the role involves analyzing customer satisfaction syndicated survey results, identifying weak points, and collaborating with related teams to develop countermeasures. The candidate will manage the engine phase review meetings process and prepare reports for internal and external presentations.
A Day in the Life:
Perform engineering tasks related to powertrain quality, including closely monitoring quality performance for warranty (months in service and durability) and customer dissatisfaction with ICE and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) powertrains.
Analyze market indicators such as the JD Power (JDP) Initial Quality Study (IQS), the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), and the Quality Control System (QCS). Identify opportunities for improvement and work with relevant teams to develop countermeasures.
Collaborate with field quality investigation teams, including Perceived Quality Evaluation (PQE), Manufacturing, and Design, to create solutions for market-identified issues swiftly.
The responsible areas include electric powertrain systems and electrical control units (ECUs), such as gate drivers, inverters, motors, batteries, direct current (DC) converters, and drivetrain components.
Analyzes quality performance reports and shares summarized data with project management teams to address emerging or chronic issues.
Coordinate and organize phase meetings for new developments, review documents, and manage related processes.
Who We're Looking For:
Basic knowledge of ICE and Electric Powertrain components: Engine, Transmission, Inverter, Motor, Battery, DC Converter, and drivetrain, including main components of the system and essential functions of each element.
Working knowledge of quality and problem-solving tools, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Weibull charts, Decision Analysis etc.), and statistical process control.
Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
Understanding automobile electronic and vehicle communication networks, such as Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), and Ethernet.
Understanding of Systems Engineering method and approach.
Experience using diagnostic tools and data collection instruments, including CAN Tools (CANoe/CANalyzer), oscilloscope, Consult 3+, and data recording vehicle (DRV).
Thorough computer knowledge such as word processor, spreadsheets, and other PC applications. A strong understanding of Excel data analysis tools is preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of professional-level engineering experience in the automotive industry, with a preference for experience working with quality systems.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Up to 10-20% of domestic and international travel may be required. This includes occasional day or overnight trips to Canton, Mississippi, Smyrna, and Decherd, Tennessee, manufacturing plants.
