About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Business Execution to lead our project and program management efforts, supporting our agile transformation. This role will be crucial in ensuring our investments align with organizational and strategic goals, are executed efficiently, and deliver measurable value.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Alignment and Governance

• Oversee the entire portfolio of projects and programs to ensure alignment with the enterprise’s strategic objectives
• Prioritize projects based on strategic importance, resource availability and risk assessment
• Support strategic planning processes by analyzing project performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Ensuring project proposals are aligned with the organization's strategic roadmap
• Partner with Head of Agile Transformation to ensure initiatives are aligned with Value Stream mobilization roadmap and support Agile adoption.
• Collaborate with Value Realization office to articulate measurable value and benefits for initiatives.  

 

Project/Program Management Support:

• Ensure adherence to Program and project management methodologies, operating guidelines and Agile playbook standards and best practices
• Establish and maintain governance frameworks, policies and procedures
• Provide training and support to project managers and Scrum Masters on project management tools, Agile techniques, and frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
• Provide periodic updates to senior management on project status, risks and issues including sprint and release burndown charts
• Monitor project progress against planned timelines, budgets and quality standards using Agile metrics and KPIs
• Help teams remove impediments and foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Collaborate with Product Owners to ensure alignment between business objectives and Agile delivery

 

Performance Measurement and Improvement:

• Define and track agile key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project and program performance in collaboration with Value Realization Office.
• Analyze project data and sprint and release data to identify trends and areas for improvement
• Collaborate with Value Realization Office to translate operational KPIs into financial metrics e.g. real savings and productivity gains

 

Execution Risk Management:

• Facilitate cross-functional resource allocation and capacity planning across projects and agile teams
• Facilitate collaboration and removal of barriers by setting up Governance SteerCos with key stakeholders including regional office owners.
• Monitoring team velocity and identifying potential resource constraints
• Monitor and report on portfolio risks and issues
• Support agile teams in continuous risk identification, assessment and mitigation, focusing on business risks, market changes, and organizational impact
• Ensure alignment between agile initiatives and organizational goal

 

Build the “right” muscle

• Implement and monitor quality assurance processes to ensure project deliverables meet defined standards.
• Implement and refine project management best practices, working closely with agile teams
• Conduct post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions
• Provide leadership and direction to the program management team
• Identify and nurture agile champions for organizational transformation

 

Requirements:

• University degree from a recognized institution
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience with a proven track record in Program Management
• Solid hands-on knowledge and experience in project management methodologies, tailored to business needs
• Strong analytical skills and business acumen
• Experience working with executive teams and CEOs
• Excellent communication skills in English; Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an advantage
• Experience in change management and organizational transformation
• General understanding of Agile methodologies and principles

 

Key Success Measures:

• Ensure >85% Portfolio is on track quarter on quarter.
• > 90% planned business outcomes of key initiatives are achieved (90% PI objectives for Value Streams)
• Drive adoption of Sun Life tools such as Planview for overall Portfolio Management.
• Optimize and simplify initiative reporting and build transparency with stakeholders.

 

This role reports directly to the Chief Transformation Officer, Sun Life HNW and plays a critical part in driving our organization's project success and strategic growth.
