PRIMARY FUNCTION: Manage shipping and receiving functions and employees to ensure cost effective, efficient, and safe transportation and receipt of goods. Ensures that materials shipped and received are verified against pertinent documentation such as bills of lading, purchase orders, and invoices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supervises employees, which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
- Coordinates the handling of materials received or shipped by Wayne Farms, including maintaining proper logs and inventories, determining cost effective shipping methods, and verifying that complete orders have been shipped and received without damage.
- Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the department; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
- Supervises all international shipping orders; selects carriers and prepares required customs documentation.
- Operates equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks; ensures that equipment is in working order; and oversees warehouse maintenance.
- Maintains records of shipping/receiving activities, assists in the development of recordkeeping procedures, and prepares associated reports.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, and environmental standards.
- Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant shipping and/or warehousing management experience, or high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years shipping and/or warehousing management experience.
- Experience in coordination/scheduling of shipments with external trucking companies.
- Experience in inventory management.
- Previous management/supervisory experience.
- Able to learn use of computerized WMS
- Computer use capability with intermediate knowledge of Outlook and/or Microsoft applications.
- Ability to lead and thrive in a team environment.
- Ability to train others in safe fork lift and motorized pallet jack operation.
- Ability to effectively interact with different levels within the plant.
- Demonstrated high energy, highly motivated, works independently with minimal supervision.
- Able to adapt easily to change, and working effectively in fast-paced workplace.
- Demonstrated strong analytical, decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.
- Prefer bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline, with 2-4 years relevant shipping and/or warehousing management experience.
- Previous experience with computerized Warehouse Management System
- Experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) preferred.

- Up to 25 hourly employees

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Requires occasional handling of items up to 100 pounds. Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently uses visual skills to read numbers and details in small print as well as to read computerized data.
- Frequently talks and receives auditory information.
- Frequently uses fine finger and hand manipulation skills to pick up and move paperwork as well as to operate the computer.
- Able to operate equipment, specifically Forklift and pallet jack.
- Routinely able to work in extremely cold environment (colder than -10 degrees F).
- Approximately ½ of work time is standing or walking on cold concrete floor.
