This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

Our Lunar Permanence team is developing our lunar landers to demonstrate core capabilities – including the BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture.  The team building this vehicle is rethinking how space systems are designed, with a high-performing architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop, plan and execute component and subsystem tests, including development, leak, shock, vibe, thermal, proof, and EMC.
  • Develop test requirements, plans and procedures to ensure acceptable hardware/ system performance.
  • Design, define, procure, and install system test components and materials; manage vendors and subcontractors during installation.
  • Assist in evaluating hardware and system performance data from qualification and acceptance testing.
  • Assist in troubleshooting qualification and acceptance test anomalies, provide dispositions for hardware non-conformances with supporting rationale, perform system and component risk assessments and define risk burndown in support of vehicle testing and ultimately flight.
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
  • Demonstrate high standards in test operations and work cooperatively with a diverse team of Integration Engineers, Responsible Engineers and BLUE customers to ensure requirements are met
  • Integrate between thermal subsystem and overall system level vehicle to ensure component level testing is in compliance with overall vehicle test plans.
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • ​Experience in spacecraft GNC component development, qualification or acceptance test experience including: optical sensors, LIDAR, hazard detection, or other sensors
  • Laboratory experience including ESD protocols, hardware handling, and rework documentation
  • Understanding of safety-critical systems development (aerospace, medical, automotive)
  • 15% travel to other Blue Origin locations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a variety of customers with demanding and complex design requirements sets
  • Rendezvous Proximity Operations and Docking experience
  • Experience with Linux, python or C++
  • J-STD, IPC-620 certified
  • Experienced handling of spacecraft GNC flight hardware


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $109,980.00-$153,972.00

Other site ranges may differ
