Ultra Maritime is looking for an experienced Materials Engineer with knowledge in chemicals, resins, paints, papers, composites.  In addition, knowledge of potting processes in underwater acoustic transducers is a plus.

Learn and support a crucial role in qualifying new materials and suppliers, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance. Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality and the customers by providing technical verification processes for new materials or current materials.

Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Material Qualification: lead the process in qualifying new materials for cost reduction or obsolescence based on technical requirements and data analysis.
  • Material Properties Analysis: Understand and analyze material properties and their impact on product performance.
  • Test Plan Development and Evaluation: Define and develop test plans to validate materials.  Coordinate testing on or off-site. Evaluate test results and make decisions on approval of material.
  • Standardization: Drive standardization of materials across multiple item and programs to improve quality.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure materials comply with regulatory and internal Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
  • Presentations: Present data results to the required stakeholders and provide input to internal and external presentations
  • Basis of Effort: Provide proposal estimating for Mechanical Engineering efforts 
  • Collaboration: Provide strong collaboration with the Sales and Manufacturing teams to align priorities  

Other duties may include mechanical engineering tasking and/or manufacturing engineer tasking based on the candidate’s background. Understand the obligations and liabilities related to the contractual agreements made by the company.

    Required Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with five (5) years of materials industry experience.
    • Good knowledge of chemicals, resins, paints, papers, composites and it’s properties and performance.
    • Experience in developing and executing test plans.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to interpret 3D Models, schematics and Drawings
    • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to speak and communicate effectively with various audiences at the operations site level.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals and technical procedures.
    • Ability to write reports, general business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.  Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens

    Desired Skills:

    • Knowledge of underwater acoustic transducers is a plus
    • Sheet Metal/Machine Parts (frames, enclosures, panels…etc.) models and drawings
    • GD&T
    • Cost Benefit Analysis
    • Experience with test equipment design
    • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering and Project Management
    • Proficiency with the following tools: CAD tools (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
    • Product lifecycle management (Agile PLM preferred) 
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Project) 
    • Basic level of proficiency with machine tools  
    • Lean Six Sigma training a plus
    • Strong team and individual-based problem-solving skills
    • Project Engineering experience and/or training a definite plus
