The Legacy Modernization Enterprise Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for defining and governing the architecture strategy for transforming legacy systems—such as mainframes and monolithic applications—into modern, scalable, and cloud-native platforms. This role ensures that modernization initiatives align with business objectives, compliance requirements, and enterprise architecture principles while minimizing risk and disrupt
Responsabilities:
- Engage in C-Level Mainframe Modernization Strategy Workshops
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing decisions and driving digital transformation initiatives.
- Be the lead source of knowledge on mainframe technologies and migrations, both mainframe infrastructure and software as well as mainframe integration based.
- Validate Solution approach for Mainframe Modernization projects, own deliverability of the technical and functional solution, ensuring correctness and achieve sign off
- Collaborate with delivery, sales, and partner teams to shape proposals and ensure successful execution.
- Support in initial phases of project delivery
- Provide technical leadership to delivery teams and mentor solution architects.
- Architectural Strategy & Roadmap for Mainframe Modernization
- Lead assessments of legacy environments (e.g., UNISYS OS2200, IBM z/OS, VSAM) and define modernization strategies (refactor, replatform, replace).
- Develop future-state architecture leveraging hybrid and cloud-native patterns (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Establish modernization frameworks and enforce architectural standards across programs

Skills and Experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated excellence in communicating and presenting complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in written form.
- 3+ years programming experience in either C# / .Net using MS Visual Studio, ASP.NET, and PowerShell or Java using IntelliJ or similar IDE and Python.
- Ideally also knowledge of legacy programming languages too, for example, COBOL, Assembler, JCL, etc.
- Familiar with and willingness to learn further:
- DevOps and build tools, for example, Azure DevOps, Maven, Jenkins etc.
- Containers such as Docker, Kubernetes / AKS.
- Windows Server/AD, VM’s, Azure or AWS Cloud.
- SQL Server or PostgreSQL, or other open databases.
- Ideally knowledge of mainframe infrastructure and operations.
- Ideally experience in maintaining large enterprise applications in a legacy mainframe environment or alternatively have worked previously in legacy migration/modernization projects.
