Job Description

We are looking for an Epidemiologist to support surveillance and reporting efforts related to latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) investigations. This position will be Full-Time and Onsite, offered as a 6-12 month contract.

Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Review existing LTBI investigations in the state electronic disease surveillance system (NBS), identify those ready for closure, and communicate findings to TB Regional Nurse Consultants and the TB Program Manager

  • Conduct missing and unknowns (MUNKS) quality assurance checks and corrections in NBS for LTBI investigations

  • Assist the TB team in improving LTBI reporting and surveillance data in NBS

  • Monitor NBS daily for TB morbidity reports, review, and process as appropriate

  • Enter relevant reports and laboratory results into the system as needed

  • Track LTBI surveillance data and create a monthly LTBI report with indicators for the Epidemiologist II and TB Manager

  • Assist the Epidemiologist II with completing the TB Annual Report and CDC’s Aggregate Program Evaluation Report, as well as CDC LTBI Reports

  • Maintain current knowledge of LTBI epidemiology and biology

  • Provide epidemiologic consultation and technical assistance to local health departments, healthcare providers, and the public regarding LTBI

  • Summarize contact investigations monthly for TB Regional Nurse Consultants within their jurisdiction

  • Prepare and disseminate written and oral reports and presentations for internal and external partners

  • Serve as a backup to the Epidemiologist II in their absence

  • Perform related duties as assigned

What You'll Need

Required:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (public health or biological sciences) OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (public health or biological sciences) OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-relevant field with 2 years of public health experience

  • Knowledge of the epidemiology and biology of tuberculosis

  • Knowledge of state laws, regulations, and federal public health guidance documents pertaining to tuberculosis

  • Skill in identifying public health problems relevant to Indiana residents

  • Skill in conducting epidemiologic surveillance activities and evaluating public health surveillance systems

  • Skill in public health investigations of individual cases and/or outbreaks of tuberculosis

  • Skill in preparing written and oral reports, presentations, and educational materials for various audiences

  • Ability to apply principles of informatics, including data collection, processing, and analysis, to epidemiologic practice

  • Ability to identify and appropriately use laboratory resources

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Ability to collaborate across agencies to address public health challenges

  • Effective communication skills (oral and written), with an understanding of risk communication principles

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and maintain organized records

Physical Demands 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

  • Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$32.41 per hour

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
