Job Summary:

To provide pharmacotherapy services, both clinical and distributive. To provide education and training, participate in clinical research, and perform quality control measures.

Education & Experience

Pharm D from an accredited school/college of Pharmacy and American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) accredited clinical residency or post-bachelor's degree from an accredited school/college and two (2) years of pharmacy experience; experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement. Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required:  Licensed for the practice of pharmacy and obtain a controlled substance registration by the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy prior to engaging in the practice of pharmacy and dispensing of controlled substances in the state.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of prescribed medications. Knowledge of medical and drug information literature and databases. Analytical and problems solving skills. Verbal and technical writing skills. Interpersonal skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to synthesis drug and medical information to provide evidence based conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Documents medication histories of patients.  Analyzes controlled substance reports and usage for discrepancies.
  • Documents medication histories of patients; participates in the design, implementation, and monitoring of drug therapies for patients.
  • Answers patient inquiries regarding prescribed medications.
  • Reviews and updates clinical protocols. Conducts clinical pharmacy research, writes and edits customized medical articles, performs technical review and interpretation of clinical information, and writes concise drug information based on professional labeling.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for physicians, residents, nurse anesthetists, technicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and documents potential and/or actual adverse reactions to prescribed medications.
  • Supervises pharmacy support staff dependent on role and/or location of service.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, constant bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking.
