Sr. Manager, Tax Technology – Indirect Tax

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated, technically skilled, and detail-oriented Sr. Manager Tax Technology Specialist – Indirect Tax to join our team. As a Tax Technology Specialist, you will be responsible for leveraging technology solutions to streamline and optimize our indirect tax processes, enhance efficiency, and drive data analytics initiatives. Your expertise in process improvement methodologies, automation tools, and data analytics will be vital in identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing automation solutions, and driving data-driven decision-making. This role requires strong analytical skills, technical proficiency, and a passion for continuous improvement. Knowledge of indirect tax laws, and regulations is preferred, but not required. This position reports to the VP, Indirect Tax.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tax, finance, and IT, to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in the area of indirect tax. 
  • Conduct thorough analysis of tax data and systems and existing processes and workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, discrepancies, errors, and areas for automation and improvement while working closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements, gather data, and develop solutions that meet their needs. 
  • Collaborate with VP – Indirect Tax and functional tax team leadership to develop and manage comprehensive master workplans for tax technology process improvement initiatives for both overall Indirect Tax and individual functional tax area (sales tax, property tax, etc.)
  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions using appropriate tools and technologies, such as robotic process automation (RPA), workflow automation, or scripting languages to support indirect tax compliance, reporting, and analysis
  • Create and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials for automated processes.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate team members and internal stakeholders on process improvement solutions, automation tools, and data analytics techniques.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tax technology matters, providing guidance and support to team members and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to resolve tax technology-related issues and implement best practices; collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities, streamline business operations and integrate automation solutions with existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to extract insights, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of automated processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with established standards. 
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in process improvement, automation, and data analytics. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. A Master's degree and/or CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax technology, indirect tax, or a related field. 
  • Working knowledge, or better, of indirect tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of tax technology tools and software, such as tax automation, tax determination, and tax reporting solutions. 
  • Proficiency in using tax software platforms such as Vertex, Avalara, PTMS, ECM, or similar systems. 
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing tax technology solutions and managing tax technology projects. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement changes effectively. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity. 
  • Ability to adapt to evolving tax laws and technology advancements in the tax industry.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement methodologies, such as Lean Six Sigma or Agile, and their application in business environments. 
  • Experience and proficiency in automation tools and technologies, including with data analytics tools and techniques, such as data extraction, transformation, and visualization (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau). 
  • Experience and working knowledge of programming tools such as Python and Visual Basic.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results within established timelines.
  • Continuous learning mindset and a passion for staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$108,700 - $181,100
