Responsibilities:
Technical Execution
- Manage multiple large and complex assurance engagements from planning through delivery, ensuring high quality and timely results.
- Complete detailed review of workpapers and financial statements for accuracy, quality, completeness, and compliance with GAAP, auditing, and professional standards, and assist in the preparation of more complex financial statements, as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for complex client technical questions, planning, and overall engagement updates.
- Anticipate client needs, with minimal guidance, and provide proactive recommendations.
- Supervise audit teams; delegate tasks with clarity, and review work for technical and professional quality.
- Manage engagement progress by monitoring budgets, capacity, and timelines to ensure work stays on track and within scope, stepping in as needed to provide support and achieve engagement goals.
- Coach and support seniors in the execution of complex engagements through the wrap-up phases, ensuring high-quality deliverables and smooth finalization of the audit process.
- Maintain technical expertise through ongoing learning, research, and participation in internal technical discussions.
- Oversee engagement scheduling with the client in collaboration with the resource management team.
- Review and provide high-level strategy recommendations for budget planning and managing the process of developing the budget.
Workflow, Communication, & Collaboration
- Communicate clearly and professionally via Outlook, Teams, and other mediums with internal teams and clients.
- Maintain up-to-date calendar availability to support collaboration and scheduling.
- Own performance management processes for direct reports by conducting 1 - on-1s, contributing to goal setting, completing evaluation processes, and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Anticipate complex engagement challenges and proactively develop solutions, ensuring the team and workgroup are prepared to navigate obstacles with minimal disruption.
- Maintain proactive communication with the engagement partner by providing high-level status updates, raising concerns when the engagement is off track, and escalating issues with recommended solutions when partner involvement is required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Tax and Advisory services) to coordinate full-service delivery.
- Proactively solve problems within the workgroup.
- Travel to client sites, as required, to deliver high-quality client service.
- Serve as an intern coordinator, as needed and selected.
Business Development & Market Presence
- Apply broad knowledge of KSM’s services to identify opportunities for client
- expansion and actively participate in cross-service pursuits.
- Generate new business opportunities by developing and deepening centers of influence and referral relationships in coordination with partners, directors, and firmwide initiatives.
- Mentor managers through associates on the three dials of business development: identifying opportunities with current clients, cultivating centers of influence/referral relationships, and supporting new prospect development.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business
- CPA License in good standing
- Completion of annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements – 40 hours
- 8+ years of experience in public accounting or audit services
- Demonstrated experience leading assurance engagements from planning through reporting
- Prior experience reviewing complex audit workpapers and managing audit teams
- Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and develop staff at multiple levels
