Position Summary

The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.

We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.

Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.

Washington University School of Medicine seeks an experienced Building Automation System/DDC Controls Technician. This position will provide programming, repairs, re-commissioning, and troubleshooting of Building Automation and DDC Control Systems. The Technician shall have at least two to five years of experience and be knowledgeable of testing, troubleshooting, and calibration of DDC devices related to Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, and Phoenix Controls Building Automation Systems.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• The duties of this position include the programming, troubleshooting, and recommissioning of building automation/DDC systems. 
• Assists in covering the Building Automation Control room as needed. 
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and repair of the Building Automation System and DDC equipment.
• Performs software and hardware upgrades to Building Automation System network controllers.
• Repairs/replacements of DDC field equipment controllers.
• Performs preventive maintenance tasking of DDC systems in Vivariums, Data Centers, Wet-labs, offices, and their supporting HVAC equipment.

Working Conditions

• Ability to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds.
• Climbs, balances, stoops, kneel, and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring, and equipment.
• Handles a variety of hand and power tools. Near-visual acuity is needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.
• Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are needed to fit and install parts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Vocational training.
• Competent in the functionality of Building Automation Systems, including software, engineering, and commissioning tools, DDC controllers, and field devices.
• BACnet protocol fundamentals.
• Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys and Schneider Electric I/A Series and/or EcoStruxure is a plus.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to read low-voltage electrical diagrams.
• Proficient with test instruments and calibration tools.
• Possesses an understanding of HVAC system functions and applications. This includes the ability to understand the written sequence of operations.
• Consistent and clear communication with staff and customers.
• Advancement from a lower-level position at Washington University.
• Demonstrate professionalism, respect for colleagues and stakeholders, unwavering integrity in all actions, dedicated pursuit of excellence, and a track record of consistent dedication to achieving organizational goals.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
• Three years of related experience in a skilled trade function or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. 
• Must obtain Valid Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver's license within 30 days of hire.

Salary Range

$25.47 - $39.49 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
