The (Sr./Lead) Engineer/Analyst, Market Simulation, supports the Market Simulation Department mission by performing day-to-day FTR/ARR, Market Efficiency Economic Transmission Planning process, Market Software Support/Enhancement and other ad hoc tasks requiring analysis, reports, coordination, stakeholder efforts, documentation and etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Support day-to-day FTR/ARR, Market Efficiency, Market Application Support efforts including internal process documentation.

  • Perform power flow analysis as required to support the Market Simulation group.

  • Perform economic transmission planning in support of the PJM Regional Transmission Expansion Plan using the PROMOD unit commitment market simulation optimization tool.

  • Support the Market Simulation group in developing and maintaining the Market Efficiency database that is used for economic transmission planning.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to support the activities of the Market Simulation group.

  • Support and lead the RTEP Order 1000 Market Efficiency proposal window process.

  • Work with other members of the Market Services Division, Planning Division, System Operations Division, IT Division and Legal Personal in problem-solving and streamlining processes related to FTR, Market Efficiency and Market Application Support.

  • Maintain and enhance FTR, Market Efficiency and Market Application Support internal process documentation.

  • Represent PJM on industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups involving issues related to the PJM markets.

  • Interpret the PJM Tariff, OA, JOAs, and Manuals, evaluate enhancements for any potential impacts and recommend actions to management.

Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience

  • 0-5 years of experience Powerflow analysis using PSS/e, TARA, PowerWorld

  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail

  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory

  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support

  • Experience in the theory and application of power flow, short circuit and system dynamics as well as power system analysis methods


Preferred:

  • MS degree in Engineering

  • At least 5 years of experience Electric market simulation software tool such as PROMOD, Plexos, GridView, or MAPs.

  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions

  • Experience using PSS/e (power system analysis program)

  • Experience in the Generation and Transmission functions

  • Experience with power system components and their database models

  • Ability to use SAS to analyze complex data, to test hypotheses and to draw conclusions

  • Experience with power flow applications such as PSS/E, PSS-MUST, TARA, PAAC, EMS or equivalent
