Candidates should live within a commutable distance from the Denver office (1800 Larimer) in Colorado or the Corporate (414 Nicollet) office in St. Paul, Minnesota. Non-local residents will not be considered.  

               Work with the Integrated System Planning – Energy Supply & Market Modeling staff to support the build, validation and updating of long-term capacity expansion and production cost models.  Work as an entry level Analyst completing tasks that support the tools, programs, and data sets used to update the department models utilized for long-term utility planning. Tasks will include the identification, implementation and monitoring of specific process improvements related to data collection, output processing, and development of new modeling methodologies.  Specific projects will revolve around streamlining existing processes to increase innovation, quality and efficiency and errors.  Successful candidates will utilize applications such EnCompass Power Simulation Software, PowerBI, and Microsoft Suite to produce, analyze and present data results that justify long-term electric system plans.

              This position is full-time in the summer (40 hours/week), with the potential for continuation for part-time work during the school year.  Through practical field and office experience and mentoring, the successful candidates will gain significant professional confidence, specifically in utility system planning, operations and strategy as well as people skills.  This position is full-time in the summer (40 hours/week) with the potential for continuation for part-time work during the school year.

  • Example of a project description (replace this with your description): Work with the Engineering staff to support gas usage studies, manual updates of geographic assets, facility updates within the hydraulic models as well as implementing process improvements to drive efficiency and accuracy in model results.  The successful candidates will also work with Staff to complete asset capability and system design reviews, modeling requests stemming from internal departments, and running sensitivity scenarios associated with long term plans to help drive the Company’s initiatives in addressing the future of the gas system.
  • This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer.  If the intern works during the school year, their hours should be part-time.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Enrolled in programs focused on Science, Technology, or Mathematics, such as computer engineering, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting, data science, electric design, project management, chemistry, biology, environmental studies, natural sciences, and similar.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.40 to $27.20 per hour
