About the unit

4 West is a medical surgical unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit is the perfect place to gain experience and grow your career! The patient population on 4 West provides its employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of different conditions consisting of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, kidney failure, and hyperglycemia. In Butterworth hospital it is common to see high acuity patients which provides the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as patient assessments, IV/urinary catheter/NG tube placement, rapid decline in patient condition, EndoTool, etc. 4 West is a well-established team that works collaboratively and functions exceptionally well. This collaboration is not only experienced between RNs or technicians but also the interdisciplinary team on the unit which includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Nurses and technicians on this unit are also given the opportunity to self-schedule their shifts to assist in creating a work life balance that is best for each individual employee!

Scope of work

Nurse Tech responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed baths, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. This job does not require CNA certification due to the extensive amount of orientation/on the job training provided.

Orientation:

The Nurse Tech role will require 3-4 weekdays of classroom time with our Nurse Educators. These are pre-scheduled and required WEEKDAY classes that will require attendance the first week of work, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
