The Role: Senior Data Researcher - APAC

The Team:

The S&P Global Ratings Data and Content Management team is tasked with unlocking data & delivering content to our analysts and customers. The team acts as the main point of engagement with our customers on projects, including analytical partners, to discover and drive new and enhanced content creation through definitions, lineage, mapping, readiness, and inventory. The team ensures availability of content and its end-to-end completeness and quality for both internal and external use, according to our governance standards, enabling customers to make fast, informed decisions. The team sits within our Operating Office, as part of the broader Data & Content team, and works in close partnership with many teams throughout the Ratings organization (including strategic operations, technology, analytical, commercial, etc.) and cross-divisional with CRISIL and Market Intelligence.

The Impact:
As a Senior Data Researcher, you will be responsible for sourcing of financial statements and company reports from a variety of sources, entering the data from the reports to the in-house applications and performing pre-defined analytical adjustments on the data entered into the analytical systems.

You will serve as the primary point of contact for “all things content” related to your team across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.  You have the opportunity to collaborate with the team responsible for advancing, increasing, and delivering the end-to-end content flow within Structured Finance, Corporate, Financial institutions (FI) and Sov/IPF  to help drive our analytic capabilities, customer satisfaction, business results and growth.  

Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing of financial statements and company reports from a variety of sources including websites, directly from the company and from the analytical team.

  • Identification and mapping of data elements from financial statements to the in-house software tools. Entering the data from the reports to the correct location in the template.

  • Performing pre-defined analytical adjustments on the data entered the analytical systems

  • Work closely with team members based in Beijing, Melbourne and Japan office and liaising with members of the analytical team, commercial team in Hong Kong, Singapore and Pacific regarding data sourcing, interpretation and adjustment related issues;

  • Understand requirements for information from various sources, tools, and documents, to enable clear interpretations of meaning for analysts and clients;

  • Support process updates as part of criteria and commercial use case development and lead

  • operationalizing of these processes;

  • Understand and be able to make sense of data used for analytical purposes in deriving a rating or an evaluation;

  • Have a view of Ratings Direct product and Ratings 360 product and how existing ratings data fits in and how it may enrich current content offerings.

  • Partner with data quality to introduce new quality measurements for establishing content “fit for use”;

  • Working with business stakeholders, data visualization and reporting specialists and/or data scientists to determine analytics data consumption mechanisms;

  • Undertake data field mapping; support maintenance of data dictionary; Understand and maintain global mnemonic dictionary for all practices within APAC;

  • Thorough knowledge of business and data and content organization role in the data value stream in support of business value;

Qualifications:

  • CFA or bachelor’s degree holder of Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related subject

  • 0-2 years of Data management experience in managing and interpreting data (e.g. data querying, data analysis)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, Basic programming skills and preferably

  • experience in writing VBA, Python, SQL and MS Excel skills would be an advantage

  • Able to multi-task and meet projects with a tight time frame

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-changing, global and regulated environment.

  • Ability to work with little supervision and develop a process from the bottom up
