Overview

Corporate Counsel will function as a member of the Saddle Creek Logistics legal department, located in Lakeland, Florida, and under the direction of the Assistant General Counsel. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the legal department’s provision of legal services to the Company on a broad range of legal issues specifically pertaining to the Company’s provision of third-party logistics services and related matters.

The successful candidate must be an approachable, solution-focused, and proactive business partner. This position requires a candidate with a range of legal skills including and the ability to learn and perform in new practice areas as well as a self-starter who can work independently. 

Responsibilities

  • Review, markup/draft, negotiate and complete various types of commercial contracts, including facility lease agreements, professional services agreements, supplier agreements, non-disclosure/confidentiality agreements, statements of work, license agreements, RFP responses and supporting documents
  • Provide timely, practical, business-oriented legal advice directly to internal clients on an array of matters
  • Support internal clients, by identifying potential risks and liabilities and applying innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to quantify and evaluate risk to the Company
  • Assist with risk modeling and with the development of protocols and policies
  • Prepare and implement policies and procedures in response to legal and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with and facilitate cross-team decision-making among the business units
  • Provide oversight and assistance to outside counsel on litigation matters

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • JD degree required
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Florida and in good standing, or alternatively, an active member in good standing of at least one state bar with the ability to become Authorized House Counsel with the Florida Bar within ninety (90) days of hire
  • Two (2) – Five (5) years of experience with a law firm, corporate law department, or governmental entity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to analyze and draft various commercial agreements as well as review and revise proposed agreements.
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of litigation
  • Familiarity with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)
  • Ability to research, understand, and advise on complex and novel legal issues
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and effectively, and deliver practical solutions in a fast-paced business environment
  • Ability to work well with senior executives as well as the Company’s managers, customers, and opposing counsel
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to leverage subject matter expertise, assess risk, and assist in the establishment of appropriate policies and procedures
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and negotiation skills with a strong client-service orientation
  • Ability to travel as needed
