About the unit 

The 24 bed Medical Surgical unit located within Greenville Hospital provides care for patients with a variety of diagnosis. Patients on this unit range in age from new born to elderly and can be admitted for medical diagnosis such as COPD, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, cellulitis, and post operative care among many other medical conditions. This unit provides the opportunity to gain hands on knowledge and experience in a teamwork oriented and supportive environment. Scope of work 

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.  Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.  Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications 

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days 

·         Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
