About the Team

The Science, Technology, and Medical Journals (STMJ) team at Elsevier is committed to making our journals a leading destination for researchers worldwide. We work collaboratively with authors, editors, and reviewers to publish high-impact scientific discoveries, with a strong emphasis on rigorous peer review, ethics, and research integrity.

Supporting a portfolio of over 2,700 hybrid and open access journals, we contribute to advancing science and improving health outcomes globally.

The Health and Medical Sciences (HMS) portfolio includes more than 1,000 journals across a wide range of medical specialties, with a strong presence in surgery and dental science. We partner with medical societies and associations and support high-profile journals. Our team consists of 11 publishers and an experienced managing editor, working across global locations.

About the Role

We are seeking a Publisher to join our HMS team, overseeing a portfolio of international proprietary and society journals, primarily in neurology and complementary medicine. This role involves strategic portfolio management, relationship building, and business development, aligned with STMJ’s broader goals.

Responsibilities

  • Market Awareness: Stay informed about developments in health and medical sciences to identify emerging needs and opportunities.

  • Portfolio Strategy: Use market insights and data analysis to develop strategies that ensure competitiveness and growth.

  • Portfolio Development: Drive content growth through innovation, acquisition, and expansion into new formats and channels.

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong connections with editors, editorial boards, societies, researchers, and institutions.

  • Contract & Budget Oversight: Manage editorial contracts and budgets, and contribute to pricing strategies.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Participate in STMJ-wide and Elsevier-wide projects, representing HMS interests and contributing to innovation and process improvement.

Requirements:

  • A university degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience in STM publishing, including open access and society partnerships.

  • Strong communication and networking skills in English.

  • Ability to adapt to change, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate across cultures and geographies.

  • A data-driven mindset with interest in digital publishing trends.

  • Commercial and strategic awareness, with a focus on business development.

  • Results-oriented with a proactive, solution-focused approach.

  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 6–8 trips per year).
