Job Description:

Position Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Performance Test Engineer who combines deep JMeter and AWS expertise with strong analytical and communication skills. In this role, you’ll own the performance engineering strategy for modern web and API applications — designing and executing load, stress, and scalability tests, diagnosing bottlenecks, and translating findings into actionable recommendations for development and product teams. You’ll work in an Agile environment alongside developers and QA engineers, help set SLAs, and actively leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate test creation, execution, and analysis. This is a hands-on technical role with real influence over the quality of software experiences used by thousands of end users.

Key Responsibilities

Design and execute performance test scripts covering load, stress, endurance, and scalability scenarios using JMeter and k6; simulate real-world traffic conditions against web and API targets.

Configure and manage distributed load testing on AWS (EC2, CloudWatch, ECS) to achieve representative test environments at scale.

Diagnose performance bottlenecks using profiling tools, metrics dashboards, and log analysis; clearly communicate root causes and remediation paths to engineering teams.

Define performance SLAs in collaboration with product and engineering leadership; produce comprehensive reports covering risk, capacity, and scalability recommendations.

Contribute to performance test strategies and documentation (test plans, tool evaluations, verification deliverables) throughout the project lifecycle.

Review unit test and integration test results with developers to ensure adequate coverage across system boundaries.

Evaluate emerging performance and automation technologies, including AI-powered test tools, and recommend adoption where appropriate.

Mentor QA team members on performance testing standards, tooling, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

5+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining performance test frameworks for complex enterprise applications.

Expert-level proficiency with JMeter, including scripting, parameterization, listeners, and plugin ecosystem.

Solid experience with AWS for distributed load testing — specifically EC2 for JMeter controller/worker setup, CloudWatch for metrics collection, and IAM/VPC configuration.

Working knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language relevant to test development (Java, JavaScript, or Python).

Familiarity with REST and SOAP-based API testing using tools such as REST Assured, Postman, or SoapUI.

Experience integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent).

Proficiency with source control and collaboration tools: Git, GitHub or Bitbucket, Jira.

Experience applying AI tools to enhance testing workflows, analysis, or automation.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with k6 or BlazeMeter as an alternative or complement to JMeter.

Familiarity with Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium for functional/integration test coverage.

Experience testing headless, composable, or API-first architectures.

Prior experience mentoring QA engineers or formally leading performance testing initiatives across multiple teams or product lines.

SQL proficiency for query-level performance analysis and database load simulation.
