Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager of Systems Engineering 3 opportunity in Bethpage, NY. This is a dual-role manager position, involving both the overall Functional oversight and management of a multi-functional Engineering group and performance of individual productive work on a program or several programs in a leadership capacity.
The selected person for this position will be the Section Lead of a Multi-Function team of ~80 employees, including managers and senior technical leaders, in the AMS E&S Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare Operating Unit organization. The position requires being on-site at the NGC location in Bethpage, NY.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities for the position:
- Lead section staff based on goals, objectives, and company policies
- Monitor and maintain Engineering process across multiple disciplines
- Ensure adherence to established engineering processes
- Provide leadership and support to programs and technical teams to successfully achieve engineering objectives and program milestones
- Provide engineering staffing to programs
- Manage workload forecasting and hire/develop engineering talent
- Performance Management of employees
- Manage indirect charging of section staff
- Lead compensation planning, promotion evaluations and other employee recognition activities for section
- Support proposal activities (lead, technical/management volume development, Basis of Estimate (BOE) development/defense).
- Support and lead engineering organization efforts aimed towards skill and career development, continuous improvement, and growth.
Additional responsibilities include collaborating with peer section managers and interacting with business division counterparts to coordinate program success support. The section manager will be responsible for implementing the vision of the department and the Bethpage site within their section.
The section manager will also be expected to perform productive (direct-charge) work a program(s). The direct program work may include technical work, IPT leadership, consulting, proposal support, or any other appropriate technical function.
*This position requires up to 100% on-site work due security constraints and an ability to pass an enhanced security review.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires 14+ Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.
- Previous experience managing 10+ direct reports
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced among interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities
- Demonstrate the ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals
- US Citizenship
- Active Security clearance, Secret or higher required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing a functional team and 1st level managers
- Experience in proposal writing and Basis of Estimates (BOE)

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80; the 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
